People have different tastes and levels when it comes to nonsense… When I said “nonsense” though… I mean extreme nonsense. Don’t you read minds? I expect better out of Wookiee’s…
I’m gonna be a bit salty as it’s a shitty day here…if the hobby is going to simply watch that “pro spec video”, and then just proceed to regurgitate that very same information into the varied lists and spec articles…why not just roll them all into one and let “pro spec” be the end all be all.
Pro spec lists their self anointed books…folks listen…buy…and then key collector and CBSI just follow it up by incorporating those very books into their Subsequent lists.
Sure…nothing new and we know it, but they’ve really perfected the craft of pump and dump recently.
Yeah its a bit annoying to read these top ten lists. Like some of the books were on the pro spec list affiliated with flipside/ cbsi/ whatever and then their list comes out and some they’re like “dur hur I dunno why this is getting hot”. Then again the guy who writes it usually behind on stuff since he didn’t know about the news with wytches. I personally do not take any advice from them because people look for them as a spec source but I’ve often found them to be more wrong or inaccurate than right. (Remember the random imperial soldier they said was Aphra in Mando season 2?)
It’s a simple solution, I don’'t even bother reading them myself.
@agentpoyo
I struggle with it as I honestly just love to read and learn about comics and in some cases, I see books, covers, artists, I just was never aware of. I read or look for the information not so much as from a spec perspective, as a knowledge angle.
Now of course, I’m anything but perfect and FOMO can kick in, or I may strive to get a book I wouldn’t have even paid attention to otherwise.
Just like the ole Wizard Top 10 articles of lore. I always looked forward to them, just because they were interesting to read and think about (or like I’m doing today…piss and moan about lol).
I think this will eventually catch up to the content creators who come up with questionable lists. It can only go on for so long until people buying into these lists realize there is no ROI. A lot of people are watching these shows with lists, then rushing out to buy buy buy only to flip. Once they realize the demand isn’t there after the first push, they’ll become skeptical. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
I have a list of books I’m just waiting to buy that are from these pro-spec lists and other flipper channels. I know most of them will be back at cover price at some point.
spec is as spec does. hold on to your cents’.
Yeah, I use to like top ten lists. I remember the old Wizard top lists but as of lately, I just stop caring. Seems most of the time they’re just what they want them to be (maybe to push their own agenda books) and or it’s just books we’ve already been talking about here.
This makes me pretty giddy!!
Ok, I’ll definitely post my experiences once my books return. It was just SiKtC LCSD foils (3 of) so not in a big rush anyway…but figured I’d pay the fast pass in hopes to get them back ASAP in case some big news broke this summer…or just to turn them around to make profit sooner rather than later.
$10ea ($9 after member discount) for FP for these three books seemed worth it given the likely spike IN TATs that are coming…
I finally sold one of my copies a few weeks ago…it’s still a cool cover but I hear ya.
Someday she’ll have a show and there will be an episode she puts in an imperial garb and the book will spike again for a week…and I’ll be ready!!!
Top 10 lists are just a way to get pump and dumps out and people buying. The actual top 10 hot comic books list would rarely change and be all major keys. Instead take a look at the current hot 10 at cbsi all pump and dumps and no evidence movie specs you wouldn’t want to own without someone telling you had to.
I would rather rely on data than on throwing shit against the wall and saying “these are our top 10 hottest comics”. With that said, I really believe in CovrPrice and/or GoCollect (definitely lean more towards CP). There’s no perfect system because numbers can be skewed by outliers, but I tend to think following data can give a better idea.
CovrPrice has an algorithm they use based on actual eBay and other sales, I believe. You’ll notice a lot of the time their lists have many of the same books on CBSI or KCC…just a week later after FOMO drives up sales…
They’re basically reporting on last week’s FOMO in many cases. But if Covrprice actually had a book the others didn’t have the week before I find it to be less driven by FOMO.
I think it depends on what you mean by major keys. If you define major keys as stuff like AC1, DC27, AF15 or IH181, then I would argue while these are blue chip investments, they are not necessarily the key movers of the week percentage-wise. In investments, the hottest books would be those that go up fastest percentage wise.
For example, there are also those comics that turn into keys following some announcement e.g. Shang Chi first appearance following his movie announcement. That would understandably make a huge jump in investment gains percentage-wise in a short span of time following the announcement, and would be “hotter” for a time than any of the established major keys.
Seasons Beatings #1 sold for $86
More than I paid for my first appearance of Kang😂
Oh okay. I liked him in Godzilla and Kick-Ass. I guess it was just the MCU stuff. Weird he played both Olsens husband and brother.
