If you need someone to tell you why you need to buy this book, then those telling you are trying to create artificial demand. So yes, demand is created by consumers, but artificial demand is not created by consumers. In the latter scenario, the artificial demand was created and influenced by non-consumers (lack of a better term).
The issue here, imo, is that that the people influenced only think it’s worth something because they were told it is worth something. First cover appearance of 3 random female spider characters is not worth anything. Can anyone name any other books that have value due to the random appearance of 3 characters together on a cover for the first time? No? Because it’s not ‘a thing’.

Something is killing the children free comic book day people are trying to sell hard for $10-$20+ even though its a free book and a crap ton of orders and doesn’t come out till August

I have been following this. Something is killing the Children breaks every rule of comic speculation. I am going to get a few copies when it come out. I not paying 20 bucks for one now.
Retailers loading up on it + FREE book to consumers = Market will be flooded. Lots of copies.

You act like everyone has been collecting for decades or has endless time to read runs and research millions of comic books that have been printed over those decades.
This is such a ridiculous argument. WHAT DO YOU CARE IF SOMEONE BUYS SOMETHING BECAUSE SOMEONE SAID THEY SHOULD??? Please tell me why care so much about what other people do.
If you did all the research yourself and already have the book, then this does nothing but benefit you and make your collection worth more, “artificial” or not. If you didn’t have the book, then your research was insufficient or YOU DIDN’T THINK IT WAS WORTH ANYTHING ANYWAY! So why do you care if other people think it is worth something???
Gatekeeping your hobby. That’s the answer.
Keep telling yourself that it’s wrong or ignorant or stupid that other collectors would consider the first time 3 Spider women are on the cover of a book together something worthy of adding to their collection and “specing” on… and then watch yourself leave LOTS of money on the table not adjusting to a new market .You do you, Bro.
Your spec is not everyone’s spec. Books you assign value to are not the only books that have value.

I think the FOC for all the FCBD stuff has passed. Better to just snag some at the LCS! If not, most online shops will let you add one to your order 
I personally don’t quite get all of the animosity directed at nearly every single comic youtuber, website, app, news source, spec website…
“I’m so tired of the comics I own being worth a lot more money than they were 2 years ago!” (not a real comment, but also sorta not too far off).
Enjoy this wave. Maybe it only lasts a year. Maybe it’s here to stay. But, I’d much rather have people getting other people excited about certain books than have nobody giving a damn about comics.
If a “worthless” book is suddenly worth a lot, well, snag a dozen somewhere cheap and sell 'em.
NOTE: There is zero anger or cranky tone meant to come with this comment. And, it’s not directed at anyone in particular. I just think it’s an odd, kinda funny perspective.
