Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

Who cares what is hurting the hobby or new collectors. I ain’t got time for that; I’m making money :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face:

Yeah I sold all my X-Factor books I didn’t even know why I ordered this week…because of these places. I don’t mind getting some sales if someone pumps a book I just happen to have!

I like people getting into comics just to read them, and enjoy the characters all these talented artists and writers think up. I can’t read them all, but I wish I could!

I also love the movie and tv show aspects of the whole industry…it doesn’t just stop at the comic, a ton of content has been born from the industry.

It’s certainly a fun time to be collecting! Try to pick those keys up before they pop!

I’m sure come August you can probably get a bunch. I think last year midtown had a lot of the free comic book day books and I ordered a bunch and only had to pay shipping but might have to go around to get multiples of stuff

I just want to remind everyone this thread is for listing books that are heating up. Not bickering about a goddamn stupid spec book that contains the first cover appearance of three characters.

I think what some people are missing here is if you’ve never made a comicxsposure order you’re not going to understand why no one that has made a comicxsposure purchase wouldnt dare push a comicxsposure exclusive cover or recommend any of their books or anyone place an order there. Just look at their online reviews if you don’t believe me.

Keep an eye out for those Black Cat Annuals. I found one yesterday at my shop.

I have at least one on the way

I don’t think people are bothered by that. What bothers some of us is the market manipulation going on to push books value up with books that shouldn’t necessarily see such heat under normal organic growth and demand. I’m all for books getting hot and their values to rise so people who got them can sell if that’s their choice but I won’t back what I think is market manipulation by pump and dumpers on books that shouldn’t catch heat under normal market demand circumstances.

Can we blame the pump and dumpers? Not entirely though. I blame the FOMO idiots who go out and buy at premium prices on such books too…

Agreed. A good example is the the recent ‘pro-spec’ list that had the DC MOTU #19 yellow Skeletor cover. I never saw that book, but thought it was pretty cool.

Go on the Bay and saw like maybe 2 listed for roughly $60. Then KCC puts it up and puts $80 high grade… then a few more. Manipulation much? SMH

Yeah, you wanna see how much a book is worth based on demand… don’t just dump your listing at highest price you think it will sell for… start that crap as low priced auction for 7 or 10 days and see how much people are willing to spend on it… that’s actual value based on actual demand… not the sellers setting the supposed value.

I have been collecting for 6 years. How can I act like everyone has collected for decades when I have only done this for 6 years?..do you think people who read comics have no idea who Spider-Girl, Silk and Gwen Stacey are?

Another issue with YouTubers is: all their ulterior motives in presenting their ‘information’. These YouTubers are looking for clicks, hence why they ask you in their videos to subscribe and hit the bell, so you will know when their next video comes out. They aren’t ‘passing along information’, they are trying to create ‘content’ in order to monetize their YouTube channel.

I care because it’s bad for the hobby that I enjoy. I care because I don’t like grifters. Bad information is not good for this hobby, and neither are grifters. Period.

Now tell me, locksmith, why you care so much about how these YouTubers ‘secret special information’ is received? You care so much, you felt the need to portray your anger in your text by using the cap lock. Yiu think it is worth something, so why do you care if other people think it isn’t worth something? :man_shrugging:

At this point some things done by Key Collector and CBSI are blatant market manipulation. You aren’t new to this scene so you absolutely know what you post is going to effect the market. Making a pro spec list is about the most disingenuous thing I can think of a spec site doing. It is just blatant pump and dump. Then CBSI has The Wednesday One I think done by Ben and that is fine. He puts it out sometime in the 24 hours before Wednesdays releases. He tells you what he is reading this week and he expects no spec value on and then he says what looks to be selling like hot cakes and you should flip. This is good info. Same with Poyos Spec and Dreck and Anthonys picks of the week.
The Pro Spec list with random nonsense books that make no sense to put on a list is just blatant market manipulation and is very easy to pump and dump when you control a list like that every week. People don’t have to buy what they put on the list but they 100% know people will and that consumer FOMO can be taken advantage of with lists like this.

I use caps to emphasize the portion of the message that is most important. The fact the you twist that into anger is a you problem, homie.

“Pass along the information? What information did they pass along that wasn’t already available for anyone interested? do you think people who read comics have no idea who Spider-Girl, Silk and Gwen Stacey are?”

This quote… this is why you sound like an entitled gate keeper. FFS, this isn’t rocket science… maybe I haven’t read the full runs of Spider Gwen and Silk and Spider Woman… maybe I didn’t know about the comicxposure exclusive, maybe I’m never going to read them but I really like the art.

I never said that was a book I thought was worth something or not, because my opinion on that one book is completely irrelevant and no one cares. No one cares about yours either.

People can consume this hobby differently than you do and it’s okay, they’re allowed.

I care because calling all the guys doing every video “grifters” with bad information is patently false and I don’t know a single one of them. It’s just like saying every comic collector is a fat nerd locked in his mom’s basement. It’s a broad generalization and not the slightest bit accurate.

This is just simply not bad for the hobby in any way, shape or form. Period. People make their own decisions to buy any book. If they only use spec videos for research, they will be out of the hobby quicker than you can come on here to whine about the last video they watched.

Many of those channels and videos can be used as great sources of info for lesser known books. I then have the opportunity to make my own choice as to whether I consider that book to have value. There isn’t a credit card attached to my youtube account that automatically charges me for every book I see on a spec video, I actually have to seek them out and purchase them on my own.

Perfect example is Secret Wars: Secret Love and Ms Marvel 31(Hans bubble gum cover) with Kamala Khan. I know I like Kamala’s look, and I know she’s coming to the MCU and I like the diversity her character provides the universe, but I haven’t been able to start her arc yet, so I have not read any Kamala/Ms Marvel to this point. Neither one of these books have key value, so I would have maybe NEVER seen those covers, which I love, if they weren’t highlighted on a spec video…

I went to ebay and bought the Bubble gum cover for $18 that day, it led me down another rabbit hole of bubble gum covers that I DECIDED I wanted to collect because I liked them. And I had another cover to look for in bins and found the Secret Wars for a dollar.

That’s not a grift, you just don’t like it. Pretty much sums it up.

People just don’t like the name. If it wasn’t “pro” in the title, no one would care. It’s just the Tales From the Flipside guys stroking their ego with the name. Who cares.

Key Coll doesn’t write the “pro spec list”. They just run the Tales From the Flipside top 10.

Just the same way CHU runs the Covr Price Top 20. Not their list either.

There isn’t any difference other then bias towards one place Vs another.

Almost all of them, including CHU, run lists. You may not agree with some of the picks, but that’s irrelevant. It’s called speculation for a reason. If they were locks, it wouldn’t be spec.

Is CHU “grifting” or “pumping and dumping” by running the Covrprice list? (Which uses ebay affiliate links just like Key Coll does). Of course they aren’t.

It’s all just perspective and bias.

Sure there are some bad apples, but painting people as “grifters” and “pump and dumpers” just because they are on YouTube or put out lists is pretty irresponsible.

Like people who sell books they don’t have, aren’t guaranteed, and haven’t paid for, prior to FOC for higher then the listed price? Especially knowing it’s outside of Ebays 30 day window for sales…

It’s just a different type of taking advantage of people and FOMO.

I have like 20 copies or more of Spider-Man FCBD with the “first” Venom which came out after venom 25…and 26.

I kept grabbing them anywhere I saw them and added them to online orders like from Midtown.

Not hard to get at all. I throw them in with online orders sometimes.

I remember there being so many arguments about that book and people arguing whether it was his first or venom 26. Then it came out it was Mac Gargan and no one cared lol

And I think people are getting a little emotional about it rather than just making a point without being hostile.

Threads go tangent sometimes. Its all part of organic discussion. No one is pumping the book. Just pointing out why people are attracted to it. It’s not your thing I get it. We all get it. Be we don’t all have to like what you do.

it’s just comic books. No reason to get underwear all knotted up about it.

Let’s not get personal please. You two either ignore each other at this point or just move on please. Thanks. First and final warning.
