Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

Can we start fights in Wal-Mart (I only say Wal-Mart since Target doesn’t sell comics) parking lots over them though?

Honestly, I still have High Republic 3’s I’m trying to pass along for cost. So don’t fight over that book…just get ahold of me.

Aren’t they behind the counter now? Can’t fight over them anymore. Ha.

LMAO I have no idea what people selling pre-orders for the going rate on eBay has to do with making and controlling your own Spec Lists as a spec site in the comic community every week but you sure have a vivid imagination that likes to stretch things beyond the reality of the current topic. Just because you want to make those two practices the same thing doesn’t mean they are, even close, at all.

Those classy individuals will find a way…

I fight with the checkout clerk now who makes it seem like I’m asking them to take down a create of text books from a high shelf via lift…

I thought those people who fought over Pokemon fought out in the parking lot… well after the purchase I’d imagine… I guess the details were never released. We live in a sad world…

Ha. You asked them to do something?

The last time I was at a Wal-Mart (cause it was only place opened at 10pm that sold spray paint and I needed it that night for a project) years ago, it took them 45 minutes just to find someone who could open the stupid cabinet where they stored it… it was ridiculous. Also I had to fight a swarm of crickets just to get in the place from the parking lot. It was straight up awful. Never again after that have I ever stepped foot into a Wal-Mart.

Ya I believe that was the story.

This book has me skeptical. None of the variants which very likely are more scarce sell for over cover…I get the “cover A” thing…but there should be some spill over…these new characters do not seem too original or exciting but it’s early.

Totem Pole guy I’m a little curious about.

I will say that while on a road trip, I listened to a few of these podcasts where they talk about this week’s top 10. Several times, the podcasters added caution. Paraphrasing here, but things like “I can’t say for sure why this one is on the list and why it’s heating up. It’s a great cover, but nothing of substance happens in the book. Keep that in mind, as I’m not sure if this can hold any value. Now’s a good time to sell, actually.”

They were mostly just talking about hot books. I heard very little “This is the book to buy (for no reason other than I’m selling 39 of them)! Go get it!” It was the opposite. Fairly responsible.

Just saying. Sorry for contributing to the veering of this topic. I’ll get us back on track…

My X Factor 10 I put up yesterday sold almost immediately. So, that is definitely a modern book that has, at least temporarily, heated up.

I sold 3 copies and I’m backing away now. Deaths are never good spec, obvious to all here I’m sure.

Paid for this weeks comics plus some beer.

Pictured on cover trumps all though.

But I agree that these do seem like throwaway characters, but we will see. Who knows.

It’s a first app market right now.

Ah, yes. It’s so rare for 1st cameos of new characters to show up on covers I missed that!

That is my case in point. People leaving the hobby with a bad taste in their mouth is bad for the hobby.

If you need to capitalize your sentences to make them seem important, then they aren’t important. Someone who can read critically doesn’t need you to emphasize what you deem important.

Your responses read like a projection of your emotions towards this topic. And they are riddled with irony, that I’m sure you are failing to see.

Nobody may care about your opinion, me included. But someone does care about my opinion… me.

Lol…it is unbelievable how contradictory your entire responses are.

Anyways, you can defend your sacred YouTubers all you want, just know that they are not there to help you build your collection for future value…they are there to create content in order to get clicks so they can monetize their ‘information’. Hence why every single one asks you to subscribe to their channel, and why every single one asks you to receive their notifications.

Best of luck. :v:

To be fair….as does every website…this very website included.

CHU, CBSI, Key Coll, Covrprice, etc…pick any comic site you want.

As does every website on the internet that runs any advertising at all. The goal is to get clicks, drive your traffic, which helps the advertising on the site. That is not unique to “YouTubers”. The more clicks you get the more you make off the advertising to pay the costs and make some on the side.

Here I am just sitting at the bottom of a shit hole country buying all these spec books for cover price or less with no one to fight over them :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea unfortunately this is people trying to police the list makers who are telling people to buy things because they have 39 of them for sale and they even provide eBay links after saying a comic is a key comic so they make money off of it.

Show me anywhere on CHU where someone told you that a certain book was important and that you should probably go buy it.

I do agree about those other sites looking to monetize their situation, I don’t see that on CHU. CHU, from my experience, is about the collectors and hobbyists enjoying the hobby together, and not about pushing spec. We discuss spec here, yes, but it is not pushed. I honestly don’t think Tony, Poyo or Drog are here to push an agenda outside of their love of comics. The history of CHU makes that point. This site was started by Tony to help him deal with the birth of his first child while engaging in a hobby he loved. It wasnt started to monetize Tony’s collection, or get clicks. It just worked out that way. I believe that same essence is the keystone of this site today. M2c.
