Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 2)

I agree that the speed at which it moved is suspicious for bots but I was able to get one thankfully. My wife tried and got shut out, though.

Came here and saw 27 new posts in the Moderns Heating up thread and got all excited. Found out we’re arguing about bots and exclusives

Well, I don’t feel bad because I’m sure all 900 people that got a copy are big fans of ABM and DWJ, and will cherish this book as part of their collection for many decades to come

See, this is the fishy part.

Felix posting about how “hot” the book is on Ebay, $400+ sales.

Saying that Third Eye will have copies for $80

Why not offer the book for sale for $150, $200
whats the limit ???

My thinking is, Third Eye/Felix held back copies
to capitalize on the Ebay heat later on when prices go up

they sold copies on ebay for a week or 2 before release.

I didn’t look at a ton of listings, but I think those are (probably) Bay Area people who went to the signing last week in Oakland. DWJ was signing and remarquing 100 of the Felix annuals.

Might be a 2nd print felix mentioned

people paying for store variant trash that will be worthless in 2-3 years when next new batman book comes out.

I’m betting you’re right, Señor Pollo.

Yeah, they’re working on a second print. If DC approves, it’ll be the exact same cover with just a mention on the back that it’s a second print. Some interesting price talk:

Further, we plan to price the second printing at $40. Half the original price of the first print. If you would like to cancel your first print order today, you can do that. (But again, keep in mind that the second print isn’t a done deal yet.) I will also personally buy back any first print for $80 if people are able to get a less expensive second print later (in the same condition it was sent).

Nope. Nothing is being set aside by Third Eye for later sale. Not the way they operate. I talked to the owner of Third Eye tonight. Felix does not actually have a retail site, they have a retail partner, Third Eye is contracted to handle the fulfillment of the books. Their site handles the orders and they do the packaging and shipping. They do it for a ton of artists stores as well. Scottie Young, James Tynion and a bunch others. They really have their shipping operations down and have a designated warehouse just for fulfillment. (Smart thinking). Since they are partnered with Felix, the print run was broken down between Felix and Third Eye, just like the last drop.

So here is the take away. The sight was slammed. There were several people who had two accounts that got books. Not many because the book went fast. All ones that were duplicated were canceled, and they will be getting none. The drop is tomorrow for the second part of the print run.

Needless to say, they did a lot of “complaint department” work today. The site runs on shopify and does have Bot protection. Lots of pissed off people. But not much they can do as the demand was there. Lots of people complained that they had it in their carts but didn’t check out in time and others got it. Shopify does not subtract items out of the total pool until you finalize your order. That way people cannot hold books in their cart and come back in a day or two and pay.

Once again, and I can vouch for this as I saw the posts personally, an investment group had this targeted. Literally thousands of collectibles investors got the message, especially after how the last one did, and targeted this book. In the end though, regardless of if they are in a collectibles investment group or not, it was first come, first paid, first served.

Thanks :+1:

get me one and i will stop f-ing up searches

Did they happen to say when that will happen? Or is a secret at random so the site isn’t slammed?

I wonder what investment group that was

Well, what fun would comic book collecting be if we didn’t have some exclusive/flipper drama once in a while

It was on Twitter. I really do. It remember the name but next time I see their stuff I will mention it.

Prepare for a long winded story.

Steve and I have known each other for a long time. He is the owner of Third eye. True story, and Steve has made an empire out of it, but there used to be a shop in Annapolis MD called Green Alien Head. The owner had to sell because his mom was sick and he needed to move to go take care of her. I loved that shop. Diamond boxes would come in. He would just throw all the comics on the rack for cover price, variants and all. Anyway, I told him I was interested in buying the shop. I had just quit teaching and started my current job with the Department of Social Services (I knew I didn’t want to make a career out of it, but here I am still). The owner told me to come by over the weekend and we could go over financials and all that. So I roll up Sunday. He tells me Steve had bought the shop. I was pissed. But he has done better with it than I would have.

So we talk all the time. The point of it is that he can’t even get me one (not that I would ask). They are locked and loaded, no favors or favorites, and it’s good luck to all tomorrow.
