Be careful when you’re storing them. I had a few copies that I put into bags and boards (current size) and noticed when I got home and took them out, the boards created some color rub on the back of the book. The ink came off really easy on the glossy back cover. I now have a few copies with color rub on what was perfect copies bummer. I put my other copies into a current bag and then double bag them in a silver age bag and board now. Had no idea how easy it was to color rub some of these new moderns.
Color rub on most new books is unavoidable. Have to bag them then place them in a bag and board.
Yeah I’m now going to double bag and board my entire modern collection (at least the important books anyway). The color rub looks awful.
Ugh… that means the TFAW pre-packaged comics (bag and board) have to be unbagged and re-bagged in another bag and placed back into the original bag & board?
I’m going to be bagging on this; which is two steps up from ragging on something.
All my moderns.
Even with DC books I’ve notice the card stock/foils can get scratches from sliding along the backing board.
Sucks when you bag a 9.8, only to pull out a 9.6/9.4 after as little as a Month.
The extra bag also protects against the accidental tape adhering to the book…just be sure when you remove the book you’re taking it out with the first bag.
Yeah, the panic you feel when that tape sticks to the cover…it’s similar to that momentary paralysis of fear after flushing the toilet only to see the water level rapidly rising because of a clog…knowing you have to act quick but there’s all this fragile stuff sitting on the tank lid. Any mistake will be costly.
“Oh no!! WHAT-DO-I-DO!!!”
Actually, one thing (there aren’t many) that I DO like about TFAW is that they tend to put modern books in silver age (oversized) bags and boards….so you really only need a single current size bag. Other shops you toss the board and need to supply silver age bags and boards.
One thing I’ll note is that different supply companies have different widths of certain bags and board. So in order to ensure the “best fit” you need to match up the right silver age bag with the right silver or current/modern board width. (1/8” delta gets a little tight with the extra bag…but you can do it).
I actually crated a table which compares these. I prefer the “blue” highlighted combination.
As you can see…an Ultra Pro board will not sit in a BCW bag. And a BCW board will be loose in an Ultra Pro bag.
If you’re adament on re-using current boards, best to use a BCW silver bag, although it’ll be a little loose.
You can always use a paper slicer to trim larger boards down….but believe me that’s a lot of work….and why I put this together as I didn’t realize there was a difference in silver age bags and boards across companies.
Why would anyone pay such high shipping costs…
I’m from Canada so the shipping cost is shipping from the US to Canada. That’s from my app for my region. But you’re right, the shipping cost is high that’s what ebay charges Canadians/International buyers when people use global shipping.
Awww, that makes sense. Yeah, forget that… When the shipping costs more than the value, nope, nope, nope.
Just a reminder that this Wednesday will be a pretty big day at the shop. On top of Ultimate Black Panther 1, Beneath the Trees 3 is coming out. Just checking the prices for issue 2 and it’s already hitting $35. Will the heat continue for 3?
#2 2nd print is also out this week.
There’s going to be lineup at my shop because a lot of people will be there for Thundercats
Any heat behind it? 80’s properties have been tanking lately and Dynamite has never been a spec darling. Maybe something I am missing on Thunder ata besides the nostalgia aspect.
There’s zero spec for thundercats, zillion covers and exclusives. The people grabbing thundercats are there because they want it
I feel like Beneath the Trees #3 ordering was at a point that everyone was aware/it was already hot, etc. I think there will more than enough copies of that likely available. and the prices should reflect it.
Only one that I’ll see a difficult time finding in my area will be Ultimate Black Panther. The hype from Ultimate Spiderman came to late and ship had already sailed. Again, just speaking for the shops in my area. I’ll be shocked to see any copies on shelves at all.
That’s because some shops will be holding some copies back
It’s the Dirty D effect (Sunday’s FOC where I said avoid the 3rd print drek, go for the 2nd print.)
I think everyone is realizing abandon the 3rd print…it Suuuuuuuuucks.
Every speculator will be chasing the 1:25 incentive, so expect this book to be EVERYWHERE on shelves. And eventually in the $1 bins a few months later when it gets bumped. Grab the 2nd print before even considering this variant.
I am an 80’s kid but the thrill usually wears off quickly. I think I made it through two issues on the Wildstorm series but it was because the first issue had a JSC cover.
