Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 2)

Double ratio is always a nice profit.

expect this one is double cost on cover

Artgerm’s Uncanny X-men #1 from FanExpo Canada. Artgerm is always hot. I’m gonna make a post on a separate thread in case anyone wants some with the CHU hookup.

Is there a link to fan expo exclusives?

https://www.shopfanexpo.com/comic-books

Dang, they were cheaper through FanExpo’s site than through Artgerm’s website, even cheaper than the prices on the Expo Floor.

He’s learning from J. Scott Campbell I see.

Generate multiple comics with that exact image; but a different background, different color and various prices.

In other words, do as little as possible - make as much money as possible.
I’m actually impressed.

Somewhere around $404

Oddly enough, two of those Avengers vs Aliens books sitting on the rack this week after nothing there all last week?
Always worth taking a look a week later too I guess.

I have a shop here that does this. I’ll never understand their logic. They have a new release section for this week’s current books and 3 other shelves next to it with issues from the previous weeks. The shelf is big enough and deep enough where they can put a stack of the current issue on display. They don’t do this, instead they put 1 copy of cover A and a copy cover B next to it. If there’s a cover C and they ordered it, they’ll put a copy there too.

So if someone buys the cover A, the area will be empty until a staff member fills it with another copy. Makes no sense whatsoever. It’s just empty space that they can use to put 20 copies behind the cover A.
Now I know how this shop works so if I don’t see a copy sitting on the shelf (ie Ultimate Spider-man 1), I’ll go ask a staff member if they have any copies left, 95% they will have multiple copies behind the counter.

Just nonsensical retailing. Most people see the shelf empty and move on, they won’t bother to ask for the issue.

For some shops, you have to factor in damage replacement and reorder shipments that arrive later. You say that one always has more on release day so idk.

Some shops actually put extra books in long time customer pull lists…and when the customer comes in and says they don’t want it it may go onto the shelf.

Happens from time to time at my LCS. That and if someone doesn’t pick up their pull list after a while all the books go back on the shelf.

My shop does that. They sometimes throw extra books in people’s boxes if they think you might like them. You aren’t obligated to buy them. They just put them back in the shelf if you decline.

Do you guys think this has any legs with Ellie taking over the Deadpool series? Deciding if I should unload mine. There’s still people selling for $30 but it seems like it got a little bump. Was $15-20 earlier, my laziness paid off again.

deadpool movies $$$$ does not translate into comic sales
so no

Sell now before it happens and possibly fizzles. Deadpool won’t be dead for long. Maybe it’ll relaunch as a team-up book with him and his kiddo doing crimes or solving crimes. Maybe both.

Hmm. To sell or not to sell?

Was putting away comics and realized the one Grommets #1 I grabbed is the 1:10 variant that is going for $65 to $75. I like the series a lot. Sell and grab a second print or hold? What say you

Pretty hot right now. I don’t know why it would get any hotter down the line to be honest. I don’t feel like things tend to really do that anymore. The only way it may potentially is the whole ā€œit’s been optionedā€ craziness that happens, but even that doesn’t seem to make people lose their minds the way it once did.

I say SELL SELL SELL while the gettings good!

If it is a book I’m attached to for whatever reason I list it above the going rate, that way the stacks of cash will soothe the hole in my heart. Or it doesn’t sell and I can keep it like I wanted to anyway.

This series is a great read, but if I can get $65-$75, sell it. 98% of comics released don’t typically hold their value (especially mini-series). You could always come back after the series ends and probably buy it for a fraction of what you sold it for. I’m getting to the point with my collection that even if it’s something I really love, if the money is good, take it and run. Just my opinion…
