I mean, if they’re getting sales then it must be something worth smoking so to speak…
I got my pre-orders from TFAW of the copies of Mark Spears Monsters #1 in. I know it’s no surprise they are moving well but I have been selling the poop out of them. Glad I trusted my own hunch to go kinda deep on them.
Oddly enough I have had decent sales all weekend on both Mercari and eBay. Many titles and somewhat stagnant books selling today.
I found 6 copies of Monsters 1 cover A at a shop while on vacation. Listed them this weekend and already sold 3, 1 on auction already with 2 bids with a ton of views. Kind of nervous how fast they’re selling so I think I’m hanging on to the rest.
Mark Spears was on House of Stein and talked about how Monsters was the only comic in the modern age that he knows of that orders for issue 2 increased over issue 1. I can’t think of any either. There have been titles like Saga and Walking Dead that readership increased over time but it didn’t happen right away.
This is Mark Spears breakout hit and the print run is minuscule (for first print) so there might be some legs with this, don’t know.
Any comic that has a HOT issue #1 right out of the gate has had increase in orders for #2 (if FOC is after #1 comes out), 3, 4. etc.
Mark just doesnt pay attention to spec.
I can’t think of any though, even hot indie books that were hot right out of the gate. We Live 1 by Aftershock was hot right out of the gate, my LCS was selling them for $15 that week but it didn’t lead to issue 2 order numbers surpassing orders for issue#1.
It’s really hard to do.
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody See is one example.
Mark is talking about overall orders for issue 2 surpassing orders for issue 1 on foc. Beneath the Trees didn’t pop right away and when it did buyers couldn’t get a copy and had to wait for the 2nd print. By that time foc for issue 2 would’ve already passed. Increased readership yes but overall order numbers out of the gate for issue 2 normally drops by 50% or more.
I am keeping some but cashing in as well. I love the book and the covers so ordered multiples.
Haven’t read it? Is this a good read or is selling because of the cool art & attractiveness of the different covers?
I know I bought & added the #2 Creature from the Black Lagoon cover before any of the talk/spec/interest simply because I love that monster and/or water related horror stuff.
Hmmm …I can’t recall the timing on 8 Billion Genies…#2 was ordered pretty well but maybe even that FOC was after #1 hit.
I’ll be curious to see how that cool #1 2nd print does…that FOC hit earlier than it did for #2 I believe.
Good idea, I’ll get to reading it later today to see what I’m selling.
Just read Monsters 1, it’s ok just an introduction story. Some flashbacks and introduction of some new characters like the Slayer. The real draw is the interior art by Mark Spears.
Also said on Stein that the bloody mouth Dracula cover of #1 was the rarest FWIW….
Someone just got REAL lucky and got the Bridezilla kickstarter cover for an amazing deal. The kickstarter covers don’t have the keenspot logo and they are EXTREMELY rare. Mark said there might be less than 50 for some of the covers, there’s even a 1 of 1 on a foil cover.
Minnesota Opera to Adapt THE MANY DEATHS OF LAILA STARR - BOOM! Studios.
Laila Starr #1 prices are going to the moon, Alice.
Ha I have copies to sell
so we’ve got TV spec, comic spec, movie spec, and now opera spec?
I wish opera spec paid off. I picked up copies of the book cheap and would love to sell.
