I bought two cover A and a 1:25 ratio because it just looked so cool and was priced slightly under the ratio-price.
Absolute Green Arrow #1A was available through a qualifier at 25 copies for $25 to dealers. Shops had an opportunity buy plenty it was an easy qualifier, I think it was another #1 issue.
making 1st full appearance in continuity in Void RIvals 33
still not a 1st comic appearance…
First Energon Universe appearance ![]()
“The printing run was terminated. You can’t just “call it” first when it’s clearly a second. Could be legal issues or subject themselves to a class action lawsuit…otherwise why do publishers even bother?”
Image did exactly that at the exact same time with their replacement copies. Identical to the first prints and even say First Printing in the indicia. DC could have done the exact same thing.
Even better, DC could have simply requested strip cover claims and had a much smaller reprint size to deal with which may have avoided the cascading series of comics delayed from hitting the stores for a week afterwards resulting in delayed sales at best and potentially some missed sales if one time customers showed up a week before a late book arrived. Wasted time, money and interest to create a second print many will not want that is not as visually nice either IMO. Replacing with something visually different is not replacing the same thing. It’s a consolation prize.
Image has reprinted other comics thru the years for damaged/printer defects and called them 1sts as well. They had a decent size list they replaced the same week as DC did, all firsts. I named mine “replacement copies” but once they start getting scrambled I’ll never be able to tell in the future one from another.
My Barabara Gordons we’re perfect and never needed replacing. More wasted effort to provide an unappealing 2nd print.
So I’m not aware of the D’orc 4 issue. Was it recalled? I know when I picked up my copy they had the original and replacement copy in my pull.
If it was the entire run impacted/recalled, it technically isn’t the official first print.
It was a long list of free replacements, aka 2nd printings that look identical to the 1st prints with no way mentioned by Lunar of how to tell one from another. In other words, there was no way for anyone to be able to tell the 2nd prints from the 1st prints 5 minutes after the 2nd’s hit the streets. Some vague mention of maybe something wrong with some copies internally doesn’t provide any way to go thru the real first prints to see if any copies actually have a problem. You now have a 50-50 shot that any copy of any of those comics you purchase has something wrong.
In the past if it was something big like page 3 is upside down or transplaced with page 17, it would be easy to remove the printer defect copies.
If not for the delay to a number of comics hitting stores due to the reprintings, you could have read Absolute Batman #21 among others, days ago or as a seller had that money in your till already paying bills/paying down loans, etc… In addition, the reprints causing release date delays have now also caused comics to start FOCing a week before we have sales data from the new issue. Absolute Batman #22 FOC’s Monday, #21 doesn’t go on sale until Wednesday so we’re basically guessing how many we may need based on prior issues sales data, not current. Multiply that by every other title running a week late and now FOCing before the sales data from the previous issue is available and you can easily see how DC basically jerked everyone over one way or another by forcing a massive reprint of something that wasn’t wanted by many people but now everyone has to pay with delays.
Also keep in mind, the alleged damages were to all Absolute Batmans that week although it was hidden inside the cover of the variants applied over top the A covers inside. With that many variants for that many Robins every 1st printing of #20 is questionable. How many people are opening all those variants trying to find a micro spine tic hidden under a stiff outer extra cover that’s pretty hard to see on the A covers themselves easily?
Image be like…

Anyone buying into the 616 blind bags?
$15 a pop?! Crazy. Yeah you get 2 comics….but good chance both suck.
Anyone grab this today? I pulled one copy. World’s Finest Mora variants have popped a bit in the past, so who knows. Maybe this one has legs.
I pre-ordered one and was happy to only pay $50 for it. They are hard to find.
A bunch of ashcans from Image hitting stores tomorrow, allegedly?
yes, there are 5 – Chainkata, (DWJ), The Last Driver (Sean Gordon Murphy), Hammerfist (Rick Remender/Steve Epting), Crowbound (Jeff Lemire/Dustin Nguyen), The Karmen Blade
Here’s my video of them.
also I think a couple of these ashcans are different than what is releasing at SDCC.
yes, the DWJ is definitely a different cover. The SDCC is full color cover instead of the color/b&w
The DWJ one is definitely different because the cover artwork looks a little varied with the colors, I second that opinion.
