My shops don’t offer the ashcans unless they ordered them in the bundles of 10. So doubt I’ll see any of these.

I managed to get the Karman Blade ashcan for $11. Was going to buy the Hammerfist ashcan for $15, but passed it on to a friend who expressed a really strong interest. My main LCS only got one copy of each Image ashcan, and the other 3 titles had already been claimed. I wouldn’t have even known to ask w/out this forum…so thanks to CHU for keeping us informed. Even my retailer had no clue about the books until another customer inquired. So these Image ashcans (which are regular size comics) are out there, but seem to be less voluminous than the Ignition “small” ashcans which are more readily available (& free) in my area.
I got all five of the ashcans today for free. There is a reason this one is my favorite shop.

And ashcans are suppose to be free. That’s the whole point of them originally, small previews of new books to get people interested in ordering the regular issue(s).

They are free….free to the shop. They’re the ones who get to preview the content and decide how many copies to order.
Shop owns it. They can decide what they do with it. Charge $1000…or give it to @anthony for being a loyal customer.
Sure they can but it’s really going against the whole reason they created ashcans to begin with. I don’t blame retailers, I blame us speculators, flippers and collectors for trying to turn any and everything into more monetary value rather than just enjoying the damn thing by reading it… and Tynion for starting this “ashcan” phase of them coming with a damn price attached to them…
They shouldn’t be making the decision, they should be deciding it based on the amount of customers are wanting it actually. Maybe even let the customers view, read the ashcan preview while in the shop and let them decide if it’s a book they wanna buy to read, collect, etc. If I was a shop owner, all the buying decisions would be based on my customers wants, not my own… that’s why we see so many retailers come and go, they act like a consumer instead of a business owner… chasing what they like instead of what their customers want and like…
My LCS will randomly throw ashcans in my bag when I check out and I don’t notice them until I get home. I just throw them in a pile but I should look at what I have.

If everything wasn’t so damn expensive maybe they could throw 1000 ashcans at each shop and say “pass them out!” At some point there is a cost/benefit to factor in. Someone has to pay the cost. The publisher clearly does not want to.
And nothing is stopping a shop from sharing the ashcan with customers either.
And making these somewhat limited does create some buzz around it too…end of the day it’s all about maximizing revenue and minimizing cost on the publisher’s end.

Here’s a fun fact that I bet most don’t know about ashcans… the original purpose and or reason for ashcan comics was to secure trademarks and copyrights for titles.

Any get an email yet about the SIKTC 49 ITO BOOM RESERVE cover ? I havent seen anything saying that I got it or I wasnt chosen.
