Why did the mom leave the child there? Got up and scurries off…child had to follow her.

The spectrum of “normal” care in parenting was the most shocking thing I witnessed when becoming a father. I knew the standard of parenting you had to fail to revoke parental rights was pretty low from my law school days, but watching my neighbor’s kids jump off their roof onto a trampoline while their dad sprayed it with water from the hose really made me realize there was a broad range of “acceptable.”

Our dog went nose to nose with a skunk in our back yard…barking and growling right in its face…would not back down…we could not get her to come back to the house. Thought for sure she was getting sprayed.
skunk didn’t know what to do. Was frozen…but it’s rear was facing our back slider so I didn’t want to walk out to get the dog.
Eventually it slithered away and the dog came back in the house. No one got sprayed.
Of course she’s afraid of our bearded dragon who’s the tiniest thing and never even hissed at her.
I thought the same thing. I guess maybe she thought in that moment not to move him.
The only devil’s advocate argument I have is that sometimes I need to walk away a few paces to get my daughter to consensually follow me. I can always see her and am never far enough away not to intervene if something happened, but she may have been just off camera.
Having said that, the kid’s leg was in a dog’s mouth and he was dragged for a fair amount of time. In that situation, I’d pick my daughter up and get her inside and probably spend the remainder of the day helping her recover from that.

And yet the kid jumps up and runs after her, lol.
Maybe she went after the dog? That’s what I did when a dog came out of nowhere and attacked my dog.
Turns out the owner lived in one of those tiny micro houses with wheels parked in someone’s back yard…dog had no collar and ran off. Probably not registered with the town or had its shots (wouldn’t surprise me seeing the conditions it lived in).
No one was home. Neighbor said the dog gets out often and terrorizes the neighborhood cats.
I reported it to the town authorities and left it at that. My dog wasn’t injured as I had literally kicked the dog off mine twice (like it was a football) before it ran off.
