Do we know how solicitations are going to work moving forward with Marvel? Are people still going to be relying on Previews or will it be Penguin’s own solicitation mode?
Not sure, but the ordering process may change. A retailer would probably have a better answer.
Diamond came out with new terms with Marvel. So they will still offer them, but at a slightly reduced discount.
Not sure if I will swap to Penguin or continue to use Diamond.
Do you have easy access to a list of what books are open for exclusives?
I have not checked into that, but I can look tonight and see if that information is readily available.
I think for exclusives it just comes down to shops reaching out to the publisher and saying “hey we would like to do an exclusive for this title” and then work things out, having to reach whatever the print run is designated
I’ve never been a retailer or had a Diamond account, but with all the weekly lamentations from my lcs owners, I’d think another option couldn’t possibly be worse.
I agree, but I don’t have the experience yet. I’ll start to feel the pain here shortly. To be fair, I also have a Lunar account and they don’t offer a shopify template…which makes setting up your shop a lot more difficult. They have all the data and just can’t be bothered to put it in the correct excel format? Come on guys…
You have to spend a lot every month to keep up the discounts. It’s very difficult to make money unless you can unload volume. Very few can make it on pure speculation. I’m definitely not one of them.
I’ve heard there’s a list of open books. My goal is to be tipped off prior to Foc.
Makes it seem like Diamond will still be getting theirs from Penguin because why would Marvel ship to both locations? They likely got a deal through Penguin perhaps to get them earlier to ship out at the same time perhaps… I don’t know but I also heard Penguin does free shipping, so if I was a retailer, I’d be switching.
Yeah, the killer is that us smaller guys won’t ever be able to keep up with the volume needed to get the top tier discount. I’m thinking they will lose a lot of business just because of that. What @thefallenone said
Penguin’s site seems a little more fluid and user friendly. Time will tell! OHHH, I like free shipping!
Free shipping… haha… good luck!
Bounty hunters 12 is definitely on the move. It’s also sold out at tfaw.
There are other sites that do give free shipping for that much. We’re still revamping our system and the goal is to at some point also have free shipping for pre-orders over the FS threshhold if they’re just comics/books. Just a matter of the powers that be being convinced the data supports it (which things like our recent survey help with).
To be honest you can get free shipping from the majority of places with a certain order amount. There are literally dozens of places to get free shipping and free bags and boards with your orders
Most of the discounts on cvr price books at tfaw are eaten up by shipping and bag & boards.
That’s another reason I moved a lot of my ordering to other sites. It just ends up being cheaper per book when I can get free bags and boards and free shipping as well as rewards points for discounts on my next order.
It’s all about doing math. Some sites will have higher discounts, some sites will have raised prices, some sites will have free shipping or free bags and boards, some sites will have no discount, some sites are required to charge tax, some aren’t required to change tax, etc. What’s the “best” for everyone in terms of pure $$$ is mostly on a person by person basis. And then there’s all the stuff that isn’t directly related to expenses (ease of ordering, condition of books, resolving issues, if you order things other than comics, etc.) that play into it.
This is why I grab mostly just incentives and exclusives from you guys now. Those are good deals despite the shipping and bag and board costs
