I figured because they’ll have a bunch.
It’s been happening a lot more often. I thought for sure it was a candidate, judging by the asking prices on ebay.

Is Star Wars: The Mandalorian #1 going to be Mando (Din Djarin) and Grogu’s first appearances in comics books?
You mean in a current storyline, excluding the SWDV 20 cover appearance ? Or a standlone storyline that takes from the TV series ? I think this is somewhat of an adaptation of the TV show, but other experts could chime in.
It will be both characters first appearance in comics outside of dv #20 cover

I would stay with the series as well because we will get 1st Cara Dune and all the other characters from the show eventually.

IGNORE, because I should read what Comic posted before I post ! 
Technically the cover art is on the “outside” of the comic…so not an appearance “in comics.”
Looking forward to the Aja art. Big fan.
