If there was only one store exclusive with Codex on the cover, it would blow up like the 25 Horn variant with Virus. There are at least 5 covers that I’ve seen with Codex on the cover, and he’s already on the cover of 25 2nd print, which IMO will be the ultimate winner here.
One day midtown will deliver my copies of the #25 2nd print think today or tomorrow the tracking says🙈
I have a bunch of captain marvel #18s still with no shipping date and we have #19 coming out in 2 days.
The problem with store exclusives is, they do not hold value long term. After the hype and FOMO wears off, everyone resorts back to the regular prints and any ratio covers that came out with the regulars. Then additional printings.
Venom #3 is a prime example. Look at the Skan Exclusive… you can snag it for under $100 on a good day and while yes, it peaked during the other Venom #3 hype, it’s gradually coming down in price as the other regulars are as well.
So yes, if you’re holding Store Exclusives, my advice is, dump fast and quickly (maybe keep a couple if you like the covers)…
I covet my store exclusives It was my copy of Dell Otto Harley Quinn that sold for $900 but I kept the other and it’s gone done plenty but I still love it. The Gwenom Horn and Campbell ones are just starting to catch fire. I just sent my Mattina Metal #2 #3 fishhook for grading. All my Peach covers are usually free by selling the covers I don’t want from sets I’m forced to buy. I’ve been making a ton of money on store variants since I started selling again 2 months ago. I use to think they were dead and a waste of money too before the Venom #25 Horn came out and now there is a big renewed interest.
There’s a few exceptions on store exclusives but more times than not, they end up losing appeal. I always see store exclusives as… quick flip if you got them at initial price point or you bought it cause you like the cover art and plan to keep in the personal collection.
I tend to agree. There’s a large segment of the comic collecting community that don’t know what store exclusives are even out there. They stick to marvel issued books that can be purchased at their LCS.
Which Gwenom horn variant are you referring to?
Chasing every store exclusive sounds exhausting…
I didn’t chase them forever. I envy those days. Ha
Just look at Dylan’s first Venom # 7 Venom with the gauntlet Virgin Cover which has nothing to do with the book.
History will repeat itself
The Venomverse Virgins and SDCC Horn variants.
The difference being there isn’t a Dylan cover of 7. There wasn’t a Dylan cover until 10.
Codex has a cover on 25, multiples on 26, and multiples on 27.
What do the unslabbed and non signed copies go for? When you start talking Slabbed and Signatures, that’s a different ballgame. Since some people are buying the slab and not the comic, which adds a super premium on top of the book.
So the most recent virgin, non slabbed and non graded with actual bidding (true demand in my opinion) went for $300.
Yep $50 buy in for the set and the trade dress moves high too.
But we are also in this comic bubble I think… a lot of this is going to come crashing down hard. So yes, like I said, there are exceptions but don’t expect every store exclusive to skyrocket in value…
Buy low, sell high… If you’re buying Store Exclusives for a thousand dollars, you either have way too much money to pass around or you’re just an idiot…
omg. Some people cray cray.
That gauntlet venom is one of the worst investments…and signatures are technically defects…I can see value when someone whose signature is difficult to attain or has passed has some value…but not otherwise. I thought a big part of sigs is the personal experience of meeting the artists/writer/whatever. I get it, yet I don’t get it at the same time…
