You know, thinking about this. If Image is so concerned about the paper shortages by eliminating 2nd printings and beyond, why not take it an actual step further and eliminate variant covers as well? Those are what I think driving up unnecessary print runs on books, retailers and consumers chasing the ratios, etc.
Come on Image, if you really cared and are reading this, you’d scale down to the single covers for new titles to prevent waste of paper. By just eliminating additional printings, you’re not really doing much but potentially pushing the demand on the first prints where you’ll continue to add ratios chase variants, etc.
Let’s do away with this wasteful habit of variant covers and see what the actual true demand a book/title may get with just the one cover approach…
