There is no room to run.
More ticks than a hound dog.
Well, if thatâs the way you grab the book, yeah.
I am. I have two memberships if someone wants to come with me to pick em up
I might be interested. What time/day is the Q&A?
It was Friday so itâs already over.
Itâs Oct 12-15
more info on the Department of Truth #1 bootlegs, from Tynionâs email:
The DOT bootlegs are going to be $10 each. Limit of one per person. They will be first come first serve at Table C27 in Artist Alley each morning. 75 copies on sale each day.
If anyone is going to NYCC, and they have the opportunity to buy an extra Department of Truth 1 Bootleg, Iâd love to grab a copy. Iâm guessing theyâll be a challenge to get, as they are only selling 75 per day.
Oh shit, thatâs right⊠usually itâs first weekend of October⊠ignore me!
Dumb, just creating false demand by doing such thingsâŠ
I have a question? Why is Tynion calling these âbootlegsâ? Does he not know the meaning of âbootlegâ? Clearly he doesnât⊠Heâs the creator and owner, itâs far from âbootleggingââŠ
If Anthony printed these up and were selling them around NYCC without Tynionâs consent, then that would be âbootleggingââŠ
Unless they just didnât print many for whatever reason. These are on newsprint paper, so they are probably flimsy and a challenge to store. The low price point makes me think they arenât super viable. And, if they then spread out the sales over a few days, that keeps they booth from getting hammered, but also potentially keeps people coming back to their booth each day. They also arenât getting rich off of these.
Maybe itâs naive of me, or maybe Iâm feeling far too optimistic for a Monday morning, but I just donât want to believe that everything is a scam.
There will be plenty of shysters and scumbags at NYCC; trying to sell their own âvariantâ of books that they self publish⊠not legit.
Sexy girl covers of books nobody has ever heard of, Musk vs Zuck bullshit, stores trying to claim their store variant is a âNYCC exclusiveââŠetc
Comics up through the 90s were made on newspaper print and we managed to keep these intactâŠ
Iâd imagine cheap paper keeps costs low, if theyâre not in it for the money, why not just print more and more and give out as a way to promote your book?
Anyways⊠still though, donât call them bootlegs when itâs the creator selling them⊠seems kind of ridiculous to call them bootlegs.
Itâs Firday from 3-5 PM. Iâm picking up for myself and as proxy for someone else. My second membership is under my name too but I can sign someone else up as proxy
It feels like a fun project that Tynion just wanted to do. This is what he sent us in the newsletter about it:
Weâre calling it DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH: THE BOOTLEG EDITION . Itâs printed in black and white, on newsprint, right here in NYC. Weâre not making these available for sale online, they will only be available. We did a print run of 500 of these suckers, and theyâll be hand-numbered on the back. They are gorgeous, designed by Courtney Menard based on the incredible design work of Dylan Todd in the series. The ink literally comes off on your fingers. Itâs everything weâve ever wanted out of this scratchy weird little series, and a great introduction to the book if youâve never picked it up before. These will be available from my booth at NYCC, Artist Alley Table C-27. Weâre going to limit the number we put on sale each day and Iâm going to have more news about that, and pricing, closer to the show. If this is successful, weâll try and do more stuff like this in the future. I want to have cool stuff you can only grab from us at conventions!
Okay, come up with another word though⊠as theyâre not âbootlegsâ stillâŠ
