NYCC 2025 - Dirty’s Haul

Rather than add to the general thread, just going to go through my pick-ups at NYCC this year.

Booth Freebies

The VeeFriends booth gave away blind card packs last year that still sell for hundreds. This year was toned down a bit…they were handing these packs out all day, every day.

The Walmart booth was a good score. You had to go through a series of simple “tests” to score tokens, which were turned in for free comics. They were also handing out packs which contained a VeeFriends convention exclusive comic.

But the big score was the Spawn #1 - Spawn 77 variant NYCC exclusive. You got this if you bought one of three Spawn figures…OR, if you are lucky enough to be around the booth at the right time Friday, Todd McFarlane signed a copy for you after his Walmart live stream.

If you were patient enough to stand in line for over an hour to play the Courtyard IO setup…you got to hit the big red button and win a random graded card or comic.

At the Marvel booth, you could sign up for a year of Marvel Unlimited for a promo price of $50 (normally $69). This also came with a Magic the Gathering variant cover of Amazing Spider-Man #1 (2025), and a promo playing card. Most sights said this was Thursday only, but I picked mine up Friday morning.

PLUS you got an exclusive action figure (I got Nova), some pins (Hellverine / Rocket) and a patch.

Also, I bought a con exclusive of Ultimate Spider-Man #21 ($15) and that put me over $70…and I got another comic (Marvel Zombies Red Band con exclusive).

Hoping flipping the USM, Zombies and Figure may pay for the subscription.

At the CGC booth, if you submitted a comic for grading you got a copy of Avengers #31 Peach Momoko cover. I’m not showing it here because I opted to also get it graded since I was only sending in one comic as it was.

But they also gave me this CGC pin and Vibes CGC exclusive game card…turns out flipping this card may actually pay for my submission! We’ll see.

Panel Give Aways

Friday:

  • Marvel Fanfare: ASM 13 JSC sketch variant
  • Marvel Comics X-Men: X-Men AoR Overture #1
  • Pro Wrestling/Comic Storytelling: DC x AEW Preview
  • Comics & Hip Hop: Legend Has It #1 Poster.

The Marvel Comics were one each.

The DC X AEW comics were just placed on seats for guests to take. But since the room was not even a quarter full I grabbed a bunch. (Sold one for $40)

The Hip Hop poster was in stacks just sitting on tables outside the room for people to grab…no one supervising so I grabbed several. (Sold one for $40

Saturday:

  • Skybound Panel: Energon Universe 2025 Ashcan
  • Marvel Next Big Thing: Incredible Hulk #29 Infernal Hulk variant
  • Marvel Comics to Screen: Ultimate Fantastic Four #22 Marvel Zombies Animation Variant

The comics to screen panel also had Halloween masks on the table when you walked in, so grabbed a few. Gues
I’m going to be Zombie Captain America this year…although I’m not looking forward to crawling on my hands…

Vendor Exclusives

These two seem to be doing well on eBay (about double the cost).

Paid $30 for the Dept of Truth (Flops) and $25 for the Crow blind bag. Will likely flip both.

Tiny Onion had bootlegs of issue #15 this year. $15 each, one per day.

Also we’re selling these Exquisite Corpses “Con Crud”
Cards…$5 each and limit five per day. I’ve sold a few for $20-$25.

Signatures

Stopped by my boy Jason Howard’s booth and got a few signatures on his covers of some of my favorite characters.

Also have never seen Dekal at NYCC. So had him sign my Penthouse magazine. He signed in black marker, which I Was hesitant about (he insisted)…but it does look kind cool in muted sort of way.

Bin Diving

First 6 are for flips. The Transformers 50 is very hard to find in high grade with the black cover. Not a 9.8, but very nice.

Last two for the PC. Been looking for a high grade ASM 328 for a while. I grab any mirage TMNT in high grade for good prices. Although this issue 17 is not 9.8 (extremely tough given the black cover) it presents very well.

Other Stuff

Wouldn’t be a trip to NYCC without picking up some knock off legos.

Grabbed the Bad Batch, Spider-Punk, Dr. Doom, Prototype Boba Fett, Zombie Cap, and Muffin (from Bluey - gave that to my daughter).

You racked up, your Dirtiness! Nice haul.

Enjoyed seeing your haul. Thank you for sharing!

You know what, I think the Energon Universe is an SDCC give away…I need to look closer…

It just says “convention exclusive” but not NYCC…that is strange.

I’ll have to give a summary of my expenses and revenues for the weekend. But moved this book onceI realized it wasn’t a NYCC only exclusive.

I’m not a fan of ashcans that don’t have words.

Moved this as well. Double what I paid (after fees).

It was always nice when selling crap I picked up at the NYCC the years I went paid for the entire trip and usually profit on top of it. I didn’t count the flights cause I’d get those free from points but it would pay for the hotel, food, entertainment while I was there along with all the crap I intended to keep.

Those Crow blind bags sold well. I purchased four, listed them and by the next morning all four were sold. People weren’t really on that book the first day.

Looking for feedback, are these creases pressable?

No, it has broken color. However I would still get it pressed to prop up the appearance and make it flat because of the value of the book. It’ll make it look more presentable but you can still clearly see the 2 color breaks that you can’t hide.

I will say getting one of these Spawn 77s in 9.8 will be somewhat of a miracle. There were handled rough and not very durable. They were free giveaways, and like a lot of the marvel comics this year they seem to use inferior paper…more so than the usual marvel paper.

thanks,
Just curios after a press after predictions on grade. 9.4?

Live look inside CGC’s grading room:

But seriously, I have seen books like this coming back after a good press with a 9.8. The 2 color breaking ticks appear to be minor. After a press it could just appear as tiny white specks. CGC appears to be more lenient (now) when it comes to spine ticks. They’re really strict when it comes to corner damages. Calculate how much your fees are after getting a press/clean, grading/shipping and signature verification. I see some sales of this raw signed for $279 on ebay right now. CGC’s grading is unreliable, it can come back a 9.4 or a 9.8 so you’re rolling the dice. If the low end of this comes out to roughly the same price as it would sell raw, then I would just sell it raw. You also have to factor in the turnaround time to see if the comic is still going for this much by the time it comes back.

I may keep it for the PC. On a side note this was the first time I met Todd Mcfarlane and he was super nice, he spoke to everyone on the line and tried to have conversations with everyone. He was taking pictures with the people in the line before the signing. Overall super cool guy.

There’s certain creators I’ve always heard terrible things about and certain creators I’ve always heard nice things about. I like knowing that Todd is someone I’ve only heard good/fun stories about.

It’s an interesting question. I think the book maxes out at a 9.4. If it wasn’t signed, I’d say have it pressed and sell it raw…going to sell for more than if graded…so you’re wasting time and money on grading.

However, the question really becomes if the yellow label (verified, not witnessed) adds more value than the raw signature. I don’t have a gage how much a verified mcfarlane signature adds over a raw book in the same grade. But that’s what I’d be researching before making a decision.
