Odds and Ends

Yeah I saw it on Facebook also and saw they had some great comics for auction.
When I was reading the details it said pickup must be made in person by Monday…so that put me off.
I did see that they offered shipping and to call some number for a shipping quote/estimate but I was too lazy to follow through.
Curious if you are local to LV and are picking up in person or if you are getting them shipped? If shipping, did you get a shipping estimate before or after you won? And what was the cost for shipping?

Not local. I called the dude at the number, and it’s very off the books sounding. I have to call back next week to get everything squared away with them. The Monday deadline is for pickup only. Not shipping. I don’t think I’ll feel great about this until I have the books in hand and they aren’t trashed. If it works out, it’s a fantastic score. Had I lived in Vegas, I would have bought an absolute ton.

So a brand new comic book shop is opening in my neighborhood, like walking distance. I go there for lunch often so excited a new local shop is just around the corner from me.

That’s sweet. I have a comic shop not far from me but never go.

I got a chance to meet the owner, he seems to be a good dude. He’s young like in his late 20s to early 30s. His dad shops at my LCS. I was passing by this morning on my way to a small local con and noticed the sign opening soon. Got to the con and the owner of the new shop was there. Got a chance to talk to him and he’s got a lot of enthusiasm. I wished him well and said that I will be opening up a pull box there to support him. He gave me his card and told me the shop will be opening in a few weeks in Dec.

I thought I’d share this, as other stores can learn from this creative marketing. This is just a smart way to drive awareness of your store. Love it.

I’ve heard of these midnight releases before but never had one here locally. Do people really show up at midnight to get a copy?

If I was a GI JOE fan I’d go for sure. But, I hadn’t planned on grabbing any copies.

I would do this, just for the fun of it

I am grabbing one of the regular Baroness covers.

That’s an awesome plan by the store. Essentially they will take a small hit but potentially bring more Joe fans in as subscribers.

It’s a good way for many likely; but not me.
I’d pay the $3.99 over the $1.50 for a good night’s sleep.
I’m not waking up to save $2.49

The only one I went to was one for the Walking Dead they did… I think myself and maybe 3-4 others showed up. The shop said the only reason they did it was because they’re open to midnight anyways for those playing board games, so staying open another hour with skeleton crew to sell a few books wasn’t big deal.
