Odds and Ends

I’ve never had any acknowledgment from eBay of my anniversary…

eBay doesn’t love you like they love me.

The one local shop I got to that loves me and holds books for me even though I am not a subscriber gave me a $25 Papa John’s gift card on Wednesday. It was funny. I go in and look at their back issue specials. They gave me the Ben 10 ashcan and saved a couple of books for me. And then said a customer gave them the card and they won use it so it’s mine too. I was like hell yeah my kids will tear up some Papa John’s

Ok so this probably explains why my shops are getting massive orders of DC books in. Not just my usual LCS but across all the shops in my city.

Not just absolute books like I would’ve expected but across all the DC titles in every single shop. 25 books at $25 a bundle is a hell of a deal for retailers.

The shelves at my LCS is filled with absolute reprints. There’s like 200 copies of absolute Martian manhunter reprints from 1-6. I thought that was nuts when I saw it this Wednesday.

Strategy hasn’t worked out as well for Marvel as DC is still king in my LCSs.

You need to meet the “qualifier” for DC. For example this coming FoC if you want to order a bundle of 25 of Batwoman #2 you needed to have ordered Superman #31 (September 2025) when it was available. If Superman #31 is out of stock then you’re beat.

So this is the same shenanigans that marvel pulled on their retailers. Must be annoying but if retailers can get some titles for cheap sure I guess…

Same here…my shop maybe orders 2-3 extra of abs titles…there were TONS now of the latest reprints.

Marvel offering 10% off for retailers matching previous orders on trash books is a complete joke…

While DC is offering 75% off…which is ACTUALLY helping retailers.

@Snizzlepop, you mean pay people to make better stories and cut into our billions and billions of corporate profits? Someone, please, remove this person from our business meeting!

And I made another CovrPrice shaker report (#4 and counting). Didn’t want or expect to pay so much this time.

Purchase or sale?

Purchase. It was the Darwyn Cooke Madman variant. I put what I thought was a nuclear bid on it ($201) and it was hovering at $20 until the very last minute and then somebody ran it up to my max. I was afraid I would lose it because I was unable to increase it. Fortunately it held.

It was between you and one other…yes, they totally ran it up in $25 increments….did they just run out of clock?

I honestly don’t know if they ran out of clock or just didn’t want to pay more. While I was watching it, the clock kept jumping as the auction extended.

I have a run of invincible books and was wondering if anyone has pressed any of the the invincible books because they use cardstock covers. are pressable defects removable for cardstock books.

thanks

Yes cardstock and foils can be pressed out but it needs to be done with extreme care and lower temperatures. Depending on the defect it can be worked on using a wide variety of methods. Make sure that the defect/crease does not break fibre. Use very light pressure to prevent the staples from popping.

Invincible books have quite a bit of value in the higher grades so if you’ve never worked on one you should send it to a presser who has extensive experience pressing out foils and cardstock.
