Oh That KCC…

Makes no “logical” sense why he book would heat up…

I liked the art and the story was interesting. But, yeah nothing earth-shattering happens in that book.

Bry’s logic is cant buy the first appearance of a character that might show up in the mcu then buy the first solo series, of course then he picks garbage like Rogue 1 or Black Cat 1 or in this case Black Bolt 1

To be fair, it’s not like Wolverine #1 has much earth-shattering in it either.

I’d say you’d be pretty successful at flipping books if you spec on what cheap books Bry & Co. (really, not just Brys comics) will buy up and feature. And we should all be doing that while we also buy up books we think will heat up because of actual news, or because any of our wonderful CHU members think so. I’ve even put out a bunch of posts on here about characters and books I think are good buys, and of course I already have a bunch of those books before I do. It’s 2 sides of the same coin. As long as you’re practicing the teachings of @agentpoyo, you’re buying low, selling high, and (hopefully) having fun! I don’t mind it. The community craves content like that. It gets the most views, that’s why they put out so much of it.

I will say though that it does annoy me when they leave out solid books that I own because they missed out  and that happens too often.

I don’t necessarily argue with Bry’s logic behind his picks. At least he’s not calling out 10+ new books “keys” every single week. But I really don’t think 95% of his picks are worth my time even seeking out. He picks books that are either already established or have been spec’d on in the recent past and long gone from my lcs.

And of that 5% I do like, I typically already knew about them and/or have them. Probably why they’re long gone.

So in general I don’t find his picks very useful.

But I will say that black bolt comic is very tough to find in high grade. I searched for a while before I found one for @jcLu many moons ago.

I got a, “Black Bolt,” first issue a week or so ago just digging in some dollar bins and loved the covers for that series. Maybe need to dig it out of whatever shortbox I put it in…

I’ve learned at this point that what they highlight is going to start the process. Whether it’s worthy of the attention or not, that app and many of these comic media folks do have the ability to move books. I’ve said it before, they create a self fulfilling prophecy.
The day Key collector/Bry highlighted Mockingbird #1 I knew my shop had an entire stack of NM copies at cover still. Around 25 copies just all bagged up. I sure as heck bought a few. Silly not to given the going rate now.

Reminds me of the pro spec days a few months ago. They highlight avengers academy on youtube key collector further highlights it, book shoots up to $80+ and now its greatly fallen down lol. still a neat book but not at those crazy prices

I can’t recall ever getting a Black Bolt book from you, Drog, especially given that I do not own any Black Bolt books. But, I think you’re thinking of a Black Order JTC variant, from that 5 issue Black Order Mini a few years back. :man_shrugging:

That Black Bolt series is excellent. Great Christian Ward art. But that isnt enough to merit a big spike in price.

CGC, KCC, & a handful of popular YouTubers control most of the “hot” market and it’s where the money is.
I do not like it that it the case; but it is what it is and I use them, because … well… that’s where the money is.

That Black Bolt series wasnt a bad read and Ward’s art was fantastic for it that i think it won awards. it’s not a bad book considering it is BB’s 1st solo but it doesn’t really belong on any Hot 10 lists without having some reason for it aside from coming up with “hot” content every week.

Sorry, can’t resist.

I’ve loved Ward’s art since ODY-C. I’ve always wanted him to take off, but people tend to shy away from the more psychedelic styles. Marco Rudy is the other who comes to mind as well. That style doesn’t produce quasi-celebrity superstars like tradition comic paneling.

I always loved the “finer” side of comic art. Maybe it’s just the painter in me, but I’m guilty of buying a comic for the cover.

These stores that do exclusives are targeting that point of view.
