Online Comic Store Report Card

Last 2 orders from tfaw were all 9.8 candidates. The siktc foils came in the “flimsy mailer” but made the trip. I live in Louisiana so that’s half way across the country.

Large order of 138 comics arrived yesterday in 2 boxes from Tfaw. Every single one of the comics is warped like this from being stacked the same way.

These guys need to know that they cannot put 70 comics in a stack all facing the same way, wrap it in bubble wrap around the center and put it in a box and fill it with packing peanuts.

What happens when the customer has to open the box and get the comics out? Nothing good, man.

I have to try and yank out 20lbs of comics and since the bubble wrap is only around the center the comics start falling out because they are just loose inside the bubble wrap.

I am not sure why the comics arent put into bigger mylars or something and completely secured in stacks of about 20ish like every place I have ordered comics from in the history of ordering comics ever.

I can only imagine the damage that would occur to my comics if I didn’t opt for bags and boards.

$700 order and every comic is warped because of how they are packed. If it happens again I will go back to M&M and Midtown for all pre-orders and use Tfaw for occasional small orders of cheap incentives only. No reason to keep spending hundreds of dollars with a store that can’t package things correctly. I have never had this kind of problem with shipping from a comic shop. It is usually 'Oh damn, the post office ruined my comics" But here it’s like “oh damn, Tfaw ruined my comics”.

The thing is that their bad packaging has been going on for months at a minimum. Check this thread it’s riddled with stories of bad packaging and damaged books from them. It’s indisputable but everyone keep making excuses for them. How about they learn how to consistently package well? Is that to much to ask? I don’t think so.

The curved books seems to be a new issue. I am going to stick with incentive/variants for TFAW and give DCBS a try.

If there’s no spine damage, are they curved due to the backer board being curved? What happens if you take out and lay on table? The slight curve seems like something that would correct itself after getting squeezed into long boxes…

I’ve seen orders of mine (not just TFAW but other places) that appear curved and once i put in a new bag and board that’s straight, the comic is forced straight with no other noticeable damage…

It looks like that was sent on November 18, which was RIGHT at the date when all of the updated shipping policies were being put in place. I’m still letting the warehouse know the issue with the stacking not alternating and not being in smaller stacks, but the next shipment should be better.

My TFAW shipment (25+ comics) also had horizontally curved backing boards. I had to replace all the boards, but the comics, luckily, appear to be OK.

Yeah, I’ve seen where it’s just the backer boards curved cause they’re cheap and thin, but still warp from the likely many different atmospheric conditions they went through to get from point A to point B while in transit.

Comics are paper, they bend. If there’s no physical damage like spine ticks or creases, you should be good to go… throw them in a longbox, turn on the dehumidifier and when you go seek out that hot book that’s selling like hotcakes 2 years from now, that book will be perfectly flat and minty fresh…

I just got my first order from Pacific Coast Key Comics and was really impressed with the packaging, condition of the books, and the transparency on their site of the condition each book will be. Keep up the great work @PCKComics!

I’m really baffled why people are still making excuses. Stop making excuses for their horrible packaging. They’re one of the major comic shops and have been in business for years. They didn’t just open or just start shipping comics. They’ve been at it for years and still can’t get it right? It’s complete and utter bullshit that anyone’s still standing up for them.

This made me lol for sure

That’s the thing ToddW, most of my packages from TFAW show up without any issues though. Are you on a crusade after just one package being delivered that got beat up?

Sure they didn’t just open and have been operating but I’m sure they don’t keep warehouse packers around for long. It’s a short lived job that most move on quickly so it’s a never ending process of improvement and training.

Nobody ever claims they want to be a “professional comic book shipper”… So lay off a bit I say, we’ve heard you loud and clear on your stance. We don’t need you coming in giving them utter shit every day. It’s getting tiresome to be honest.

Thanks for the positive review! We appreciate your business!

I’m not on a crusade and have had more than one problem with damaged books from TFAW. Years ago they were doing the same shit which is why I stopped shopping there. It’s not just the most recent order. Along with the same complaints over and over again with little to no improvement. You’re still making excuses. Post after post of the same few problems with packaging over and over and over and over again. They’re a comic shop they should know how to package after all these years. So it’s okay to badmouth mycomicshop but TFAW can do no wrong? Give me a break.

Someone drops a few hundred on one order and they all come jacked up is unacceptable and shows that they really don’t give a crap. Meanwhile you downgrade the damage and advise to rebag and board and cram it in a box. First they charge extra for bags and boards so you shouldn’t have to immediately replace them. Second those books will likely need a press to restore them to how they were before shipping. So even more money to fork out because they can’t take responsibility and improve their packaging.

Well this is the comics heating up forum, not the tfaw customer service forum. If you have that many issues take it up with them, and not on this forum where 1 marketing person chooses to spend his time searching for spec in his free time. And people are posting negative reviews about tfaw, so I don’t get your point as there are both positive and negative reviews here for them.

Maybe @RipCityGamer is willing to share the amount of orders they roughly ship out each week and give a % of reported damages from such shipments. I see TFAW as probably in the top 3 of online comic book retailers, behind Midtown and MCS.

We see a handful of the thousands of orders being mentioned with damage, cause we also are on a spec site where most come to report such things. We on this site are also in a different class from other buyers, we’re pickier, we want all 9.8 or better… etc.

So you’re making assumptions based on just a handful of reported cases here not thinking about the overall picture of the logistics of running a very big online retailer.

I give credit to TFAW as well for having a representative here, who is listening and trying to improve their own process. How many other retailers are doing that here? Midtown doesn’t care and their customer service is horrendous. Unknown just cancels on people and use lame excuses. MCS has their problems as well… all have issues. Report, say what you gotta say and move on.

Nobody is making excuses though for TFAW, clearly since people are posting negative things about them. We’re reporting it, @RipCityGamer is doing what he can and we’re moving on. But ultimately, if you have issues, take it with them directly.

It just seems you repeat yourself over and over. We heard you, don’t shop at TFAW. That’s it, be done and move on.

Do I need to tell my MCS and other shops horror stories again? No, I’ve moved on… time for you to as well I say.

Also the last I checked I was in America where it’s legal to have an opinion. I’m not breaking any forum rules by voicing my experiences and opinions. You keep standing up unnecessarily for them while people have been complaining for months just in this thread about the issues. Which by the way it titled Online Comic Store Report Card. I thought this was a place to voice my opinion but but not if it’s badmouthing TFAW.

I highly doubt the pics I saw from @AngryMrBungle will need to be pressed… that’s just being a little dramatic don’t you think? I’ve gotten books like that from many online retailers where you stick them in a longbox with others and they straighten up after a short while…

And if the bags and boards get damaged where they’re unusable, contact customer service, get your money back or replacement boards/bags.

Maybe if they learned and improved I wouldn’t have anything to complain about. If I and others weren’t getting damaged books constantly we wouldn’t be complaining. How about they fix it?!Do people not get all the same training? Do they not have supervisors or quality control checking that things are being done right?

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion but when you’re just repeating yourself, it gets tiresome. I’m just asking you to lay off a bit. It gets old real quick. But do remember, as you claim freedom of speech, that has limits when it’s in someone else’s house you were invited to.

I’m not defending TFAW. My last response was a possible quick fix solution for the curved books. If there’s no other damage, those are an easy fix without wasting so much time and effort going through the customer service option, taking pics, etc.
