Yes it is man.
Hand guns are pretty much illegal in Hawaii without proper permits background checks and what not we have murders but it’s definitely not a daily occurrence in the whole state.
I’d recommend State of Comics as well at this point. I’ve order from them a few times with no issues and the comics have been in excellent shape. The packaging has been a Gemini mailer inside of a FedEx Express Envelope and secured very well. Granted I’m only ordering a handful of books at a time.
Austin is still pretty safe when it comes to homicides…
“Austin has tallied 206 homicides since 2013, according to records collected by the Statesman.”
The one that happened to me just 2 miles north is just past the city limits I do believe but Austin has only recorded 3 homicides within the Austin City limits this year so far in 2020.
Yup, that’s how mine have arrived. Pretty sweet deal I must say… the only downside is they do price their ratio variants a bit on the higher side but for pre-orders, they have some pretty decent discounts.
Daily occurrence like… Chicago… looked those stats up… 605 homicides so far in 2020… that’s averaging 2 per day… that’s just crazy. How come A&E’s First 48 hasn’t done any episodes in Chicago? They could create several years of episodes in a month in that city alone…
Think I’m done with midtown - just no consistency from them.
Received another order with damages today. No damage to the exterior of the package so looks like a handling issue on their end prior to shipping because lets face it - they package their comics very well and so I’m not sure how else to explain this.
Of course the one book I was looking forward to the most was the worst damaged (We Live #1). I decided to email them about the damages this time - let’s see where it gets me. If they don’t offer to refund/replace damages then they won’t be getting any future orders from me.
On the flip side I will say that I also received an order from My Comic Shop today (4 books) and they showed up in excellent condition. My first order from MCS in years.
I just received one comic damaged from Midtown and I sent them proof. They said they would give me 20% credit or I can ship it back. I told them to send me a shipping label since it wasn’t my fault. I already know the answer they are going to give me. They used to refund me the total with no bs involved. I’m not going to cry over a few bucks, but I hate being taken advantage of by anyone.
Yeah I mean the order was 6 books and it’s not the end of the world but it adds up over time. 3 orders from them - 2 out of three came with unacceptable damages.
I didn’t bother when the first order came in damaged because I’ve read about how they have the customer pay for return shipping. Effing nonsense. I emailed them this time because I figure I’d try my luck before terminating my purchasing relationship with them. If they don’t come through with an acceptable response I’m done.
So lately the only shops I’ve ordered from are: TFAW, StateofComics and Unknown (I ordered from Scout as well but I don’t consider them a retailer but their stuff did arrive quickly and safely).
TFAW has been spot on. Books are showing up in immaculate condition for the most part. Just gotta make sure you have more than a handful of books.
StateofComics has been great. Their stuff is well packed and the one interaction I had when I saw a delay in an order was quickly answered and they shipped out next day, which I think was shipped 2 day fedex. They were having delays but claimed they were updating on social media, I kindly pointed out I don’t do facebook and such, so didn’t know. All forgiven since they shipped out and were super fast to answer my email inquiry.
Unknown Comics… well, only time I’ve ever ordered from them a month goes by, totally forgot I even ordered something. Marked as shipped but no movement in like 30 days… before I even get a chance to reach out, I get the dreaded, your stuff is canceled… meh, won’t bother with them again! That’s not a good first impression to make. Not sure why they were “shorted” on books I ordered pre-FOC.
I’m slowly trying to pull away from Midtown Comics after having a pull list with them since April 2020. I’ve received countless damaged books, but I’ve also received several 9.8-worthy issues as well. I’m having a difficult time finding another online retailer that has the inventory that Midtown does. I preorder with TFAW and have moved all of my independent pull list titles to TFAW as well. Is there a recommended online retailer similar to Midtown that’s not named Mile High Comics for “modern” back issues?
Mycomicshop has been good to me. I order some big dollar books form them and some dollar books and all come in great condition, I do heavy pre-orders from TFAW though. They have become my LCS when I cannot get to my lcs. Plus pre-ordering variants is cheaper and I am guaranteed my copies. Both stores ship well to me and haven’t had any problems
As previously mentioned, mycomicshop.com is great. I have used TFAW well and everything arrived perfectly all but one time (and that time they fixed it without any hassle. I am a big fan of PCKComics.com as well.
What books from unknowncomics did you order? Cuz damn that’s where all my recent books been coming from. Just got another order in yesterday and arrived in great condition and all books were there.
Some Star Wars comics… JTC Action Figure
Got my monthly package from TFAW of over 100 comics and about 15 had damaged corners similar to last month. No change in packaging. 100 Books are wrapped in newspaper and filled with peanut foam.
I hear a lot of love for TFAW on this forum, are the damaged books I am getting due to the size of my order. Just cant seem to get a clean order.
Do you get them bagged and boarded?
Yes all books are bagged and boarded but since I only get one package a month there is always over 100 comics in a box.
That’s terrible. Sloppy.
