Online sellers may soon have to report earnings above $600

People here talking about dystopian futures but nobody saying what they really want to say: ya’ll simply don’t want to pay taxes.

I’m sorry, but privacy and taxes are not the same. Maybe some above are mixing them up, I haven’t read all of the comments here.

Nexus tax laws require tax collection in some states. I’m happy to pay taxes because I love our country. However, I feel the need to protect the constitution and our rights. The more you give because you assume “they already do that” means that people willingly forfeit their rights.

If politicians feel this issue is a major concern, then they should present it like they did with the Patriot Act for counter-terrorism. Otherwise, they need to allow people who are not harming themselves or others to be free.

That has zero to do with it for me. But keep assuming.

I am guessing people who are posting about privacy are using a VPN and non-smart phone computer to post here, otherwise like standing in the rain talking about staying dry.

I like VPNs. They are handy to watch British shows.

That’s taking things a bit far. Public places do not guarantee privacy, that’s obvious. People who argue that they should have privacy in a public place are silly.

However, your bank account and associated information/transactions is private as defined by the Gramm Leach Bliley Act.

All you people defending this should just mail in your monthly bank statements to the government like good little citizens.

Let’s not get personal with people now. This comment is pushing it a bit.

Yeah, my thought is lock this thread so we can get back to comics lol.

I just discovered the “mute” option below, it had tracking on by default since I replied (it seems).

Which comment is pushing it? The guy saying we’re tax evaders or me saying they’re good citizens?

I pay taxes when I buy the book I should be able to do with it as I please without paying more taxes. Paying taxes both ways means the government claims they own everything and you’re just borrowing it for the time being.

Agreed. While I’m happy to pay taxes if they are required, I do agree there are challenges to be discussed so that things are better balanced for our citizens. We aren’t perfect by any means, but neither is the universe.

However, privacy and taxes are still separate issues.

Sorry if I don’t reply anymore, but I don’t like political discussions because I’m pretty much in the center of both parties in my beliefs.

taxes here should be like other countries, where you get a bill in the mail. you dont have to do any work cause everything is figured up for you. but of course that would stop all the rich people from scamming

I’ll yell from the roof tops that I despise taxes. I hate paying. I DO PAY my taxes and am honest with my reporting, but I hate it.

It’s funny, when people try to register here on the forums, we deny those who are using VPN’s… sorry, sign up using a non VPN to verify you’re not a bot and real, then after you sign up, use a VPN if you like… (and yes, we started doing this because all the damn spammer bots were using VPN connections)…

The main point is that if you want to continue making mad profits from books that you buy, you’re going to have to pay your taxes.

Otherwise, start doing conventions and accept cash only. Then put all that cash in your mattress :woman_shrugging:

I am not stating anything as a position on privacy, my understanding is we lost all privacy 20+ years ago in the name of fighting terrorism but it was imperfect until the smart phone. Smart phones are an anti-privacy tool - tracks your movements, conversations, typing, etc…and reports it to 3rd parties.

If a person owns a smart phone and doesn’t have a sound proof box they store it in most of the time they don’t have privacy. A smart phone is a little kid listening and sharing everything you say and do, privacy is an illusion with a smart phone.

What’s funny is, it actually happened way before that in numerous other bills… the Patriot Act was just extension/expansion on provisions, etc. Most of the main points were already in place in other laws. Everyone gets all huffy puffy but where there’s a government, there’s going to be some type of surveillance whether you like it, don’t or simply don’t care. My life is pretty boring, Google already knows me better than I know myself nowadays I think… so if the government wants to see what I’m buying, okay, just ask Amazon cause they know… they even calculate and know exactly how much toilet paper I use daily based on my subscribe and save items.

Also, I do believe that most cell phones started doing soldered batteries so when you turn off your phone, it’s not truly powering down all the way. Once upon a time, I could just replace the battery in my phone, take it out, etc… not so much nowadays… it’s been a few phones now I’ve noticed none of them make it so the battery pops out.

Honestly though, if you truly want real privacy, get rid of your smart phone. Don’t use the internet, cash all your paychecks and live out in the wilderness eating bear meat with a cabin that is self sustainable… then maybe, you can say you’re protecting your privacy from not just the government but all the corporations tracking you on all the sites you visit and buy from!
