Welcome to this weeks spec and drek, the 8th edition for 2021. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover. I also dive into the pesky drek, the book you should probably avoid if you can or perhaps not invest so heavily into.
Marvel Picks
First pick goes to Marvels Voices Legacy One Shot Coipel Variant with Miles Morales. Just a slick cover… probably see this again on my variants of the week.
Sold out at most bigger retailers online already, with cheap copies getting scooped up quickly off eBay as at the time of writing, only a few listed.
The snaggletooth variant… I still like it for Doctor Aphra #7 2nd printing…
Once again, not a lot grabbing my attention from DC so I’m gonna go out and pick a trade and hardcover I think would be sweet pickups.
First up is Swamp Thing the Bronze Age Vol 3 TPB. Big Swamp Thing fan so this is right up my alley.
Next is for you Grant Morrison fans. Superman by Grant Morrison Omnibus HC.
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
Crossover #4 still has be reading this series. Expect some spoilers. Although I have no idea who’s on the spoiler cover so don’t ask.
Two Moons #1 is finally out. I got the pleasure of reading this one already and I liked it, really want to see where this is going.
By The Horns #1 is a new book from Scout. It’s about a Unicorn slayer… The first issue was odd yet still has be enticed to read the second issue to see where it’s going.
Nuclear Family #1 Shasteen Cover is a must checkout for me. The whole nuclear war from the 50s fascinates me.
Now on with the dreaded “drek” pick, every writer and artists worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work.
The book(s) to avoid or not fall victim to in buying at inflated prices, whether it’s false demand, pump and dump or out of FOMO.
Do not pay a lot of money for the Daredevil #25 3rd printing ratio by Momoko. I like Momoko for the most part but this isn’t her best work. And what’s up with Elektra’s hair? It’s a bit more fritzy than it’s normally drawn by most… But if you can find this for dirt cheap, it’s an easy flip for profit if you can find for under $30 or so.
