Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.
Marvel Picks
Avengers Tech-On #1 (of 6) is a title I’m mainly hoping for an entertaining read. I really like the tech behind Stark and Iron Man so when all the heroes are stripped of their powers, looking forward to all the tech suits in this series for all the major characters.
I like how all the regular covers have the same pose. They’re gonna look pretty cool when lined up together.
Avengers Tech-On #1 (of 6) (Chamba Variant)
Avengers Tech-On #1 (of 6) (Momoko Variant)
Avengers Tech-On #1 (of 6) (Toy Variant)
Daredevil #31 (2nd Ptg) is the slight color change for the 2nd printing but might be worthy of a grab. It’s just a cool cover if you ask me. The first printing is still available as well: Daredevil #31
There’s a new Defenders #1 (of 5) coming out. It’s a mini-series but I’ve always liked the Defenders title. I am not digging Doctor Strange’s face though on this regular cover. I’ll probably opt for one of the others.
Defenders #1 (of 5) (Liefeld Deadpool 30th Variant)
Defenders #1 (of 5) (Ron Lim Variant)
Defenders #1 (of 5) (Momoko Silver Surfer Variant)
Defenders #1 (of 5) (Pacheco Reborn Variant)
Defenders #1 (of 5) (Perez Hidden Gem Variant)
Star Wars High Republic #8 is a must for me and it should be for you as well. I preach this every issue, anything or anyone can pop up in any issue.
Star Wars High Republic #8 (Anindito Variant)
DC Picks
For any fan of Batman and particularly of the 1989 movie comes Batman 89 #1 (of 6).
Batman 89 #1 (of 6) (Cover B - Jerry Ordway Card Stock Variant)
Hoping for a good read out of Hardware Season One #1 (of 6) (Cover A - Mateus Manhanini) by Brandom Thomas ( Excellence ).
Hardware Season One #1 (of 6) (Cover B - Denys Cowan Old School Card Stock Variant) - This is a pretty slick looking B Variant as well.
Hardware Season One #1 (of 6) (Cover C - Bill Sienkiewicz New School Card Stock Variant)
Nice House on the Lake #1 (of 12) (3rd Ptg) gets a 3rd printing. Probably a good pickup for you Tynion fans and hopes this one has the same success down the beaten path like some of his BOOM! titles.
Didn’t make a lot of waves initially but this one could end up being one of those books down the road. I’m gonna check it out myself with I Am Batman #0 (Cover A - Travel Foreman). If they ever use the character in a future movie, these firsts are gonna be nice to own.
I Am Batman #0 (Cover B - Derrick Chew Card Stock Variant)
I Am Batman #0 (Cover C - Dave Wilkins Card Stock Variant)
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
The Unbelievable Unteens: From the World of Black Hammer #1 is a must for any Black Hammer fan. I love this world and universe Jeff Lemire has created.
The Unbelievable Unteens: From the World of Black Hammer #1 (John McCrea Variant Cover)
Just a must pickup. Star Wars High Republic Adventures the Monster of Temple Peak #1 (of 4). Go ahead and pre-order Star Wars High Republic Adv Monster Temple Peak #2 (of 4) and Star Wars High Republic Adv Monster Temple Peak #3 (of 4) cause you know you’re gonna buy them no matter.
I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since I mentioned it in my Indie Previews highlights. Campisi #1 (Cover A - Galan).
If Stray Dogs can take off with all the success it had, why not a title about cats? Cinnamon #1 (of 3) (Cover A - Douglas) seems like it could be a fun read, even if it doesn’t go on to make us money by flipping. You know, you can read these things as well right?
The only thing I don’t like about Heavy Metal is the gaps for some books. I liked The Rise #1 but it’s been so long, I’m just gonna have to read it again if I’m gonna read The Rise #2 (of 6). Maybe I’ll just wait for them all to come out to read them in one sitting. At this rate, I’ll give you my review in late 2022 most likely after the 6 issue finally comes out.
