Poyo's Spec for Sept 1st, 2021

Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.

Marvel Picks

I don’t lately get too excited for event type books but I’m really looking forward to Dark Ages #1 (of 6), which is by Tom Taylor and I’m hoping isn’t a complete let down like most event themed titles. Lots of covers so go with the regular A if you can’t decide.

Dark Ages #1 (of 6)

Moon Knight #1 gets a second printing. Moon Knight #1 (2nd Ptg McNiven Variant) isn’t really anything special though since they didn’t change the cover art. Still a worthy pickup for any Moon Knight fan though.

Can’t afford the first printing? Facsimile is the next best option. Don’t be fooled by these though, these additional printings can go for decent money down the beaten path.

A must for the spec potential and if you’re a fan. Star Wars High Republic #9.

I’ve been enjoying the Momoko Demon Days titles so far. She’s not doing half bad on writing and interior duties. So I’m looking forward to this next one-shot: Demon Days Cursed Web #1. Lots of covers though, stick to your favorite.

DC Picks

Not a whole lot going on in the DC world this week for me but here’s a few highlights.

Batman Fear State Alpha #1 (Cover A - Ben Oliver) is a one-shot but could turn out interesting if there’s a first or what not within. We all know Tynion loves those first appearance creations to draw in speculators and collectors.

Batman Fear State Alpha #1 (Team Cover Francesco Mattina Foil Card Stock Variant)
Batman Fear State Alpha #1 (1:25 Jorge Jimenez Card Stock Variant)

I’m loving this Wonder Girl #3 (Cover B - Matteo Scalera Card Stock Variant) cover. Scalera is awesome, we need more Scalera covers.

And as a Swamp Thing fan, I going for the Swamp Thing New Roots TPB to have quick access to reading while also throwing up on my ever growing TPB and Hardcover shelves.

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

I have yet to read the first issue, it’s on the list but I"m gonna go ahead and pick Lucky Devil #2 since I just really like this cover.

Lucky Devil #2

The no brainer pick goes to: Star Wars High Republic Adventures #8 (Cover A - Tolibao)

Buy them… buy them all!

Star Wars High Republic Adventures #8 (Cover A - Tolibao)

Almost American #1 is right up my alley. I love a good spy related story.

I’m only buying Bad Idea if the story or book looks cool to read. I don’t play their silly games though and you shouldn’t either. We should not tolerate bad behavior. Their name doesn’t give them a pass or excuse.

So on that note, I’m looking forward to Monster Kill Squad #1 (of 4).

Monster Kill Squad #1 (of 4)

Warlash Bioburden #1 looks great. I’m in. Might be hard to find as a lot of shops likely skipped over this, not chancing on the really small publishers.

I really dig Eptings art. It’s a bonus if the story within is good or entertaining for Telepaths #1 (of 6) (Cover A - Epting).

Lucky Devil was a fun diabolical read. #2 should be an easy pick

That’s good to know.

Spec potential on HR 9 and HRA 8 confirmed. Wink wink.

There are firsts.

Drek no more for now… All it seemed to do was get people’s panties and underwear all knotted up…

LUCKY DEVIL is on my " to read " list
