Poyo's Spec & Picks for Oct 6th, 2021

Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.

Marvel Picks

It’s not going to have the same effect as his first webhead variant did but it’s still a cool cover for Amazing Spider-Man #75 (Gleason Webhead Variant).

Amazing Spider-Man #75 (Gleason Webhead Variant)

Dark Ages #2 (of 6) continues Taylor’s new title at Marvel. I’m behind and have yet to read the first issue myself, but as I haven’t heard anything bad about this title yet, here’s to hoping this ends up being a great read at minimum.

Also, Midtown is limiting the Hetrick Variant but not the others. Hmmm… TFAW still has them at their usual limit of 3 per… Dark Ages #2 (of 6) (Hetrick Variant)

Dark Ages #2 (of 6) (Stegman Variant)
Dark Ages #2 (of 6) (Hitch Variant)

Dark Ages #2 (of 6)

Darkhold Alpha #1 regular cover makes me want to read this one-shot. Love the cover. Oddly TFAW is sold out except they still report in having the Darkhold Alpha #1 (Tormey Design Variant) available.

Darkhold Alpha #1 Smallwood Variant
Darkhold Alpha #1 Cabal Stormbreakers Variant
Darkhold Alpha #1 Superlog 1:25 Variant

DC Picks

I love a good Arkham story. So Arkham City the Order of the World #1 (of 6) is on my short list coming out of DC this week of books to grab and read.

Arkham City the Order of the World #1 (of 6) (Cover B - Francesco Mattina Card Stock Variant)

Arkham City the Order of the World #1 (of 6) (Cover A - Sam Wolfe Connelly)

DC Horror Soul Plumber #1 has been a book I’ve been eyeing since Previews.

Probably the one series where almost every regular A cover is just awesome doesn’t stop with it’s next issue, Swamp Thing #8 (of 10) (Cover A - Mike Perkins).

Swamp Thing #8 (of 10) (Cover B - Francesco Mattina Card Stock Variant)

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

Last Flight Out #2. If you were able to snag the first one that sold out rather quickly, you’ll want to snag this issue if you’re still onboard reading it.

I think I like the regular cover for Star Wars High Republic Adventures #9 (Cover A - Tolibao) more than the 1:10 RI Variant. Both are awesome though for an awesome series.

Star Wars High Republic Adventures #9 (Cover A - Tolibao)

Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 is a fantastic read. I loved it and can’t wait for more. A book with very little dialogue that tells most of the story from the art in the panels really tells you something about a book. I’m sure more dialogue is coming but so far, it’s got me hooked for more.

Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover B - Begnal)
Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover C - Dalrymple)
Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover D - 10 Copy Variant)
Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover E Lotay)
Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover F Albuquerque)

Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1 (Cover A - Araujo & Ohalloran)

The bathroom reader for me goes to Billy the Kit #1. I like the old west and when it involves a gunslinging furry equivalent to Billy the Kid, I’m in.

Intrusion #1 from Heavy Metal looks like it could be interesting if the story is good and the art is there. It’s a one-shot so maybe not much wiggle room for any spec or heat as most will move on quickly.

I’ve been looking forward to Out #1 by Rob Williams. It had me at WWII.

I enjoyed driving through parts of Montana (the western part of the state was beautiful) on road trips and such. So Montana Diary One Shot has my attention this week to learn more with some humor hopefully involved based on this writers own road trip experience there.

Marie Curie A Quest For Light Trade I highlighted a few weeks back I think on FOC. I love reading about early scientists that lead to discoveries that benefit us now, even through their own sacrifices.

Marie Curie’s discoveries revolutionized our current medical practice that we know of today.

I can’t bring myself to pick up the booger cover.

Nope, can’t do it.

I actually really enjoyed Arkham City: Order of the World and Dani’s art is starting to grow on me. It really fits with this story and the Miracle Molly origin story that both deal with mental issues.

Arkham City the Order of the World #2 (of 6) (Cover A - Sam Wolfe Connelly) - has a really great regular cover, on FOC.

Forgot to mention that issue one is also the first appearance of Jacasta Joy. She could just be a plot device character for this mini series, but I think they are building up on her being the architect of A-Day as Joker keeps saying he didn’t attack Arkham Asylum. She could be a big bad of Fear State and Future State.
