Black Winter is busy refreezing…
I believe he’s fighting White Summer. Although that sounds like a douche brand.
Is the 3rd Print the one to have, given its got Knull on the cover? That and the 1st seem to sell for the most.
You can’t bring back big villains who dies soon. You give it multiple events, multiple years. Unless youre Thanos XD otherwise you risk diluting said character. Just my two cents
Lmfao if Cates pushes White Summer I’m done
1 month too late…
Worthless. Lol
So have prices on venom 3’s dropped like people thought?
And I bet they’re “Real” 9.8’s since they’re graded from a company that actually looks at their moderns; instead of throwing darts at a board to determine grade, lately.
Cheapest Venom 3 9.8 (1st, cover A) is $335. That’s on par with what it has been the past few months…most sales between $300-$350. So not too bad.
Venom 7s were hitting $130-$140 in January…now you can find them for $75.
I wasn’t planning on flipping my secret variant anyway. Picked it up for $15 at a shop the day it went on sale. Figured what they hey, at the time…had never bought a secret variant cover before…felt odd paying more than cover and wondered if I was just enabling bad behavior as these were meant to be chase variants for the fans/fun.
Venom/Donny cates hype man/Gorr storyline retcon/King in black event and ending aside, that venom 3 cover is so clean and iconic. I need to get one for myself soon when everyone starts dumping them thinking he’s gone forever.
Just like the black winter, knull will be back as well.
I sold mine long ago… Bought at cover and sold for $75 long ago… Easy money… No regrets, have moved on happy…
Same. I sold mine for $40.
Not sure if this is the best place for this train of thought, but I’m noticing that Venom (2018) issue 3 has been getting quite a few homages to its cover lately.
Here is my question: Is it become Venom 3 is a big book and that elevates the cover to a level of recognition it would not have otherwise achieved, or is it just a good/great cover that fans and other artists are drawn to?
I have a couple reasons for asking this question: Does having a heavily homaged cover increase value? Will it give it some staying power if/when Knull drifts into the void (pun intended) and is forgotten?
Off the top of my head, here is what I have for Venom 3 homages:
Donny Cates’ Hulk - Stegman homages himself.
Jurassic League - DWJ homages Stegman
Mark Spears’ Monsters 3 - Spears homages Stegman.
I also bring this up because I can’t recall any ultra-modern covers getting homage treatment like this. Nowadays it is a lot of current artists homaging the 90s or EARLY 2Ks at a latest.
I should also note that I am leaving exclusives like Little Red Ronin and Do You Pooh off the list, I’m talking about open order covers.
Venom 3 is a nice cover, but I think the main reason it gets homaged is because it contains the biggest 1st appearance of the current comic era. That said, if it’s homaged over and over it would probably add some value vs big appearances with forgettable covers like avengers annual 10 (rogue).
I always felt though that Venom 3 was a swipe of this cover:
I literally had no idea that existed. It wouldn’t surprise me as Stegman openly states McFarlane is his biggest influence. I’d image he follows all his work, Haunt included.
In the case of Venom 3, it’s more it’s a big book. Look at SIKT…another “meh” cover but now gets homaged everywhere.
I think venom is a good cover…but people were not saying “wow! Look at that work!!” When it first came out.
Having a homages cover definitely helps maintain value, maybe even increase it, as people are continually reminded that it’s out there and they don’t have one (maybe)….thats basically pumping that book every time.
Will it have staying power? I think so…just as much as any modern book can have…until we all get old and no one wants to collect comics anymore.
Knull is the biggest first appearance of the current age?!
Well, since Venom 3 (we’ll start the “current age” timeline there) who or what is bigger than Knull?
