Shipping Comics Properly

I’ve been paying the Gemini toll so far plus started splurging for the insert. I use one insert unless it’s extra pricey or delicate. Expensive, but I LOVE how quickly I can package something up. I feel like I’m paying for the convenience and time savings. But, always interested to see/hear how other people do it.

I’ve never had any problems

I add a square bubble wrap around the books for all books. If the book(s) is over $100, I throw in a top loader. I don’t keep an inventory of them, I have a good stack of them from previous purchases and seldom sell books over that much.

It’s rare…but I’ve had comics shipped to me w/o reinforcement arrive damaged. Someone took a fist or foot to it…or thought it was an accordion. I don’t like any “play” inside.

But I’d rather have no cardboard than have it with a piece of bubble wrap. Anything soft just puts uneven pressure on it, causing spine ticks. Better to just let the outer casing crease a little than have that pressure transfer unevenly onto the book.

I bag and board the books, please them in a plastic bag, use painters tape to secure the book inside the mailer. tape that all shut. and put it in the mailbox. My problem has not been damaged books, just wonky buyers.

Like today. This is why you add reinforcement within Gemini and similar shipping containers.

Fortunately the comics were up against the opposing side of the box…and not damaged.

Did they reinforce it?

No. Just bubble packing. Two comics in a bag…that had a “sealed in” board. So bizarre. Never seen anything like it.

That’s a new BCW product, I have seen it, they are expensive. Like 10 bags and boards for $14

It’s awful. I had a really hard time getting the comics out.

I just bought a new stack of mailers from Matt’s Baseball. The mailers are 6oz each and thicker than Gemini. Just a note that the shipping that the website gives is never what it actually is. I bought 140 mailers and 200 bags (trying his out, as they are so cheap). Shipping claimed to be $60, but I got the actual invoice today, and it was just $33. My total was $115.80 shipping to Minnesota for 140 mailers and 200 bags. Ballpark $0.75 per mailer.

He discounted the bags from $5 per 100 (silver, resealable) to $3.60 per. If they are good, I’m going to order 1000. BCW are like $15 per 100 on amazon.

Fantastic guy.

I ordered mailers last year, and a handful of them had a manufacturing defect that required me putting an extra piece of tape on to secure them. I told him, just as an FYI. They still worked perfectly with zero damages. But, he discounted my next order by like 75% as a make good. I wasn’t expecting anything, as they still worked fine.

Matt’s Baseball is exactly how a company should conduct business. They really seem to strive for customer satisfaction cause they know customers are the ones that keep them in business making money. Bravo to Matt’s Baseball… companies like CGC and all the others should take a note from his playbook…

I put in an order Sunday night. They came today.

When I was selling crazy a few years back he was my go to. But I just make my own now since sales are manageable.
