Not always… one example is Jason Aaron’s writing the best Marvel story ever with Thor: God of Thunder, first two arcs with Godbomb and God Butcher were just hands down great writing and it eventually introduced several new character and appearances that have gone on with organic growth and interest which pushed their values higher.
Another one that came to mind is Brubaker’s take on Captain America that introduced Winter Soldier. Great story telling that led to great new character…
To be fair, the Winter Soldier already had existed for decades and had just been a seemingly dead Bucky. I’m being a little pedantic though, I’ll admit.
Very true but normal Bucky was kind of boring… just a tag along Captain type of character… Winter Soldier ended up being a bad ass…
I would actually agree with you when it comes to new hero’s. New characters need new villains who are associated with just that character to create new/interesting stories. No one wants to see scorpion, Vulture, green goblin, venom, etc fight spider-boy. Even if the stories were written very well no one will buy that book because the preconception will be “it’s been done before.” Maybe after SB establishes himself as a stand alone character people will want to read those stories…but not on day 1.
I sure don’t, anyway. I want to at least be sold on the illusion it’s something new and exciting.
Spider-boy is just a regurgitation of an existing character as well… Should have made him Tarantula-Boy instead to make him a little more exciting…
Yep. This’ll be all about the execution…
That has been some of the issues with Miles coming over to 616, where they kept using Peter’s rogues gallery over and over. The good thing with at least his last 2 runs between Saladin and Ziggler, they have also introduced some new villains to build up his own rogues gallery. This is what needs to be done with Spider-Boy too if they are going to go all-in on this character down the road.
That’s also what Liefeld is doing with Deadpool Bad/Badder Blood. Giving him a proper rogues gallery

frack no
At least spider-boy was somewhat unique.
How many Spider-Girls have there been?
I wanna say maybe 4
I haven’t kept up much with comics but last I saw wasnt spider-boy supposedly killed off and Peter is making another deal with mephisto to bring him back? Because of course peter would do that for a kid he’s not known very long and just came into his life and said hes his sidekick since forever
For those of you too young to remember, there was a time when Marvel literally was the house of ideas…Good ones…These days…
amen
Maybe the deal will be to undo the undoing of his marriage to Mary Jane…
The second print of Spider-Boy 11 the picture at TFAW and other places looks like this.
Look at the words that were added to the picture.
I want to state I not buying this issue. Maybe I will buy issue 12. This looks like hype. Sometimes hype sells comics. If they have to tell you it is the biggest new character then it probably is not. I guess they are talking about Spider-girl. Does anyone know more about this?
