And just ordered one of each as Garth Ennis signed them.
Snagged Marjorie and Bounty. Thanks.
What a sweet deal! I bought a couple different signed Marjorie and Star Wars covers. I’ve been wanting an Ennis signature, since the first comic I ever bought (Just a Pilgrim) was written by him.
Oh I like those, especially the first one!
Second one is the top contender for Orla Jareni’s first cover appearance, though.
Marvel’s August 2021 Star Wars comic solicitations are out today and in it we got a look at the High Republic #8 cover by the ever-talented Phil Noto. Those who picked up High Republic #5 last week will remember this image from a small teaser in the back of that issue. Looks like Orla Jareni is getting her first cover appearance. Looks like Cohmac Vitus and Orla Jareni first appear in comics a little earlier, though.
Who is that pale drink of water with the double white lightsaber? That’s Orla Jareni and so far High Republic #8 is her first cover appearance.
AVAR KRISS has gathered a team of JEDI to take the fight to the DRENGIR deep in WILD SPACE, but KEEVE TRENNIS is nowhere to be seen.
Are other forces at work on the Drengir’s deathworld?
Guest-starring a host of High Republic Jedi! COHMAC VITUS! REATH SILAS! THE STAR HOPPER PADAWANS!
So, High Republic #8 will at least feature Cohmac Vitus, Reath Silas, and the Star Hopper Padawans (Star Hopper Padawans first appeared over in the High Republic Adventures #1 over at IDW). Reath Silas first made a cameo in High Republic #4 in a small obscured cameo.
Now, the solicits for High Republic #6 and High Republic #7 suggest that Orla’s showing up earlier, so I would get those on pre-order to make sure you don’t miss Orla’s actual first interior comic appearance.
The solicit for High Republic #7 states that it’s a certainty that Orla will show up, but how much face time will she get? The solicit for High Republic #7 also mentions a task force, so will we see Reath Silas and Cohmac Vitus earlier than #8 making this their first appearance?
” As AVAR KRISS summons a task force to deal with the DRENGIR THREAT, a desperate NIHIL REMNANT attacks a distant outpost. …Guest-starring ORLA JARENI, Jedi Wayseeker. “
Based on the solicit, it seems less likely Orla shows up in High Republic #6. The feared enemies are likely the Hutts and the Nihil. They also wouldn’t call fellow Jedi feared enemies. However, somebody may pop up in cameo:
The galaxy unites against the Drengir. A frontier in crisis. The Jedi of Starlight Beacon have joined forces with a feared enemy to face the terror of the unstoppable Drengir Horde. While Avar Kriss and her new allies fight nightmarish creatures on the lava world of Daivak, can Keeve Trennis save her former master from complete absorption? And, who or what is the Great Progenitor?
Are these A/B covers or ratios?
Noto is A and I think Ario is ratio.
So HR 7 and 8 are going to be the ones to stock up on it looks like! Thanks for the heads up wooky!
I think that’s right, yes.
I need to catch up with the last couple issues, but has Vernestra Rwoh made her first appearance yet? I remember seeing a couple cameos, but I haven’t seen her 1st full appearance yet.
I didn’t realize hutts had hair.
Issue 2 is one page of Vernestra Rwoh where she’s just identified as “Rwoh”:
Issue 3 has two pages unnamed:
Issue 4 has two pages where her Padawan Imri identifies her as “Venrestra”:
Issue 5 is four pages of action where Imri calls her “Vern”:
I don’t know what to tell ya. If 5 isn’t a first full, is it going to take a dedicated issue to her story alone?
What do you guys think? This one genuinely stumps me. I’d like to call 4 her first full appearance because she’s named and is having a dialogue. There have been firsts declared with much less.
There again, if we’re going off a name and a piece of dialogue, issue two has both of those but it’s just two panels on one page.
I would say issue 2. I describe a first full as multiple panels (more than 1) with speaking of any sort. So I’d say issue 2 is just first appearance of rwoh, no cameo/first full nonsense here.
Edit: Although I do say asm 299 and hulk 180 are true first appearances with a whole body reveal and the name, but market dictates otherwise.
I really do think you’re right. In this situation, if you don’t say 2, then by what criteria are you discrediting it, 3, 4 ? When does the moving line of definition fall if you don’t say issue 2?
Regarding Imri, I’d say 3 is his cameo (unnamed), and 4 is his first full (multiple panels and named).
Market only dictates value of the book, not actual first appearances.
This is true, oh wise Sage Poyo.
Yup yup. Wolverine’s “first appearance” was in Hulk 180. Hulk 181 is not his first apperance but it’s just the more desirable book with more demand, thus causing the value to be higher. This goes for all first appearances if they fall into the category of, the first actual appearance isn’t the most valuable appearance.
181 also benefited from having Wolvie on the cover for the first time making it iconic and the one to have.
The kids do love, “First Cover.”
