Star Wars: The High Republic

2nd print cover is the best one imo.
Anyone know how many were printed?

No exact number, but fieldwork at the time determined, ā€œnot a lotā€ :joy:

I regret abandoning the drunkwooky.com High Republic firsts thread in favor of the WookyWiki project, but I just couldn’t spend all the time on both and WookyWiki seemed like a more worthy priority to me.

I’m pretty sure that thread gave me the WookyWiki idea in the first place actually.

Every time this name is mentioned I think of these.

Cavan Scott didn’t get the joke because he gets good shortbread in England and doesn’t have to eat that garbage.

Who knew that mentioning Lourna Dee would result in a Tweet with Cavan Scott about Lorna Doone’s :joy: That the cookies are in the shape of Lourna Dee is a brilliant twist!

I got (3) of my HR1 2nd prints in yesterday and they look great! Shoutout to eBay seller recessioncomics for outstanding packaging. They have bumped their price up for them, but honestly, I would too right now.

I’m not a buyer at that price, but I’m not averse to paying higher than cover since I didn’t buy at release.

Got my HRA 12 and 13 IDW exclusives yesterday. Ordered 2 of each and every one has a small spine tick and/or color break. Not terrible, but not NM+ like some listings claim. Debating whether or not to take them out of the polybags.

If it’s for the pc take it out. But if you’re flipping leave it in and let the buyer decide. They also can’t try to return it or claim it’s worse than NM unless they open the bag…then it’s not in the same condition as you sold it.

Mine come in today

At first I got this when I clicked on their link in the shipping confirmation email…

Then I manually typed in the tracking number.

Anthony must’ve got his order in before mine, as were both east coast…I’m loosing the race…

Unless you really need the cash in the short term, the more I think about it, HR keys and HRA keys are a long time hold. Once a show hits, if it sucks in another generation of kids plus current Star Wars adult fans, these issues could be big money in 10 to 15 years. Unlike all other Star Wars movies/shows so far except for Mandalorian, these characters first appeared in comics, not on the screen. Firsts for characters like these in comics seems bigger to me than say ā€œBossk’s first appearanceā€ in the old Marvel stuff. Comics have always ranked low on the totem pole of thing Star Wars fans collect. Given that, there is a huge chunk of fans that probably don’t even know these High Republic comics even exist, let alone the keys. Yet. Just my two cents.

This is true. I can attest to this. I’ve been collecting Star Wars comics specifically since 1994 and nobody has been interest until about 2019.

HR #1 5th print could also be good some day.

As someone who fits in the group of people who got interested after 2019 any idea what caused the new interest?

I got into it because my buddy who I could nerd out with about Star Wars opened a comic shop so I bought some to be a good friend and then loved it.

The only print I don’t like is #4 but mainly because I think the cover is booty cheeks.

Marvel did a really good job pushing the brand out starting in 2015. So, there was a base of about 4 years of pretty quality comics coming out. 2 Vader volumes. A 75-issue run of Star Wars. Some great minis including Darth Maul, Lando, and Rise of Kylo Ren. From there, stuff starting really revving up on the Disney+ side which is what I would say drove the spike in interest around 2019. The Clone Wars final season came out on Disney+ and was leaps and bounds more cinematic than the first six seasons. Longtime fans were incredibly excited that the series was getting the proper ending it was intended to have. Then Mandalorian dropped a bomb on everybody in December 2019. People started realizing that Star Wars screen properties were tying everything together from all media and fans from outside comics started flooding in asking for backstories.

TL;DR: Disney+ happened.

Ya Marvel doing the comics greatly raised their profile.

I just got my SWHRA #12 & #13 Online Exclusives today. Aye aye aye aye aye with the shipping.
No backing boards. U-Line shipper. And the spines are… y’know… arggghhh.

If anyone is grading these eventually there aint gonna be alot of 9.8’s in my opinion.
What a mess

Can’t believe they charged so much in shipping for such poor service.

So, I ordered a decent amount because I had a feeling they’d use the same box size no matter what, which would lead to things shifting around.

I guess I got lucky because mine was packaged really well.
