TFAW Closing

I thought Midtown also does this. Just that they close orders before FOC.

Westfield Comics used to as well. Not sure if they still do.

I like MCS in that they’ll let you add in stock books to your shipment, saving you more money. I’ve piggy backed a lot of hot spears books doing that.

Per their website.

We at Westfield Comics have been selling comic books through the mail for a very long time. Our comic book mail order service started in 1979…we originally sold golden-age comic books but, over time, began to have so many requests for new comics that our founder, Sherill Anthony, made the move toward selling current issues… now, over 30 years later, have become the comics industry’s premier mail order comic book service. We value your comic books and other collectibles, we carefully pack your shipments of comic books and other collectibles, and we continue to provide an easy way to order…We want you to have a mail order store you can trust to get your fix for Justice League, Batman, Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, and all your other comic book heroes and heroines. And we want you to have a good time getting it. Trust us - our mail order subscription service has been around so long for a good reason.—The Westfield Comics Crew

I will say Westfield is great. I use them to preorder any stuff besides what I get locally.

I’m glad you looked into that, because that occurred to me last night as I was moving all preorders over to my new Third Eye account. Thank you.

I know they used to leave books on “open order” up until they received copies…so when a book got hot before release and everyone ordered 200 copies they would have to go back and cancel orders (or cut them back) they could not fulfill.

That upset a lot of people. Some of them here.

Hopefully they’ve wised up.

I haven’t ordered from them in forever but their website was top notch and their preorders were the best.

I just don’t get why they would completely erase ordering online and keep actual physical stores open?!

If I’m remembering correctly @Anthony stated there was $140,000 in affiliate link sales during the last year.

Running the site is way more expensive than the stores. Especially with comics. The time to pull and pack a random issue of a comic someone buys for $3.99 resulting in $1 of profit (before you even take into account packing materials and the fact MOST shipping fees were break even at best) is hard to make work. Especially when a larger corporation like Embracer is in charge and needs to see a lot of 0s in the profit column.

A huge majority of orders (at least when I was there) were 2 or less issues. The labor and materials cost for those were basically covered by the larger orders.

What’s the deal with Third Eye shipping for preorders? I couldn’t really find much info about it on their site.

I think they charge a flat $5 shipping.

Just completed my first order. I used the “ship when complete” option. They also gave a 15% discount which was great. First thoughts on Third Eye are all positive. Thank you for your referral, most benevolent one!

pop culture zone is not bad for pre orders.

New email today says all in stock sales are closed after today as well.

So no sale then?

Wow. They are changing up as they are going. Wonder why they decided no new sales after today

I can only assume it was an Embracer call/change/demand based on how they’ve handled other company shutdowns. But who knows.

Can you post the text of the email. I didn’t get it

Dear Valued Customers,

As a reminder, TFAW will be shutting down on April 30, 2025.** Thank you for making us your comic shop and for being a part of this incredible community over the past 25+ years. We’re incredibly grateful for the support you’ve shown us throughout the years, and we’ve truly loved being part of your comic-collecting journey.

Before the site goes offline, there are a few important deadlines to be aware of – including two upcoming dates this week.

You will have until Thursday, April 10, to review your preorders and subscriptions.

Any available pre-orders will be processed today, **Wednesday, April 9 regardless of your usual shipping frequency. If there are items you no longer want shipped, now is the time to cancel them.

As pre-orders are no longer locked-in on customer accounts, and you can cancel any items you no longer want by visiting the My Pre-orders & Special orders page and removing them.

Then, on April 10, unprocessed pre-orders will begin to be canceled. Although we will not be fulfilling these remaining items, we encourage you to use this time to save or record your pre-order information for your records. Your account will remain accessible until the website goes offline.

Please note: all in-stock sales will end at the close of business on April 9, 2025.** Due to circumstances outside our control, we are unable to offer any products for sale after that date.

Here’s a quick reminder of the full timeline:

  • April 9, 2025: Final processing for subscriptions, preorders, and in-stock orders.
  • April 10, 2025: Unfilled pre-orders will begin to be deleted from your account.
  • April 30, 2025: Website shuts down permanently.

Our retail stores in Milwaukie and Beaverton, OR, and Universal CityWalk, CA will remain open and ready to serve you.

Thanks again for everything.
