The official Jeff Monk thread

I have been meaning to make one of these for awhile, since we all seem to like his work. I figured this would be a good way to show all his stuff, while he is still relatively new and does not have too much out yet. So we know what he has out, before he really blows up and we are left scrambling trying to find his early stuff. This is most recent one I could find a Godzilla cover.

These are the only things I could find that he had published before he did his Spawn covers.

This one is available here.

He has some Dr. doom covers but I could not find those, I think someone post them somewhere on here before, and a Kickstarter that just ended with his first interior art and a couple covers.

I’ve been so underwhelmed with the Godzilla covers, but that one is really good. Let’s hope his work gets some love.

Reminder: Monk still has Spawn 362 B and C sets available signed for $15 on his website. Shipping is a flat $15, even if you buy a few sets.

He does really well with those remarks. They are nice.

Were those directly ordered from his site? If so how long did it take to get after ordering? I ordered a set about a month ago so just trying to gauge.

Yes, directly from his site. Took roughly 2 months.

I got these in a couple days ago. I got one set of signed and one unsigned.

My sons met him at FanExpo Chicago as I could not get over by him to talk since we were busy at our booth. I had them get Spawn 362 signed and he was telling my boys his life story as he was signing the books for him and it is sad to hear his story, but glad some of his current work is getting his recognized. Sounded like a really good guy.

Comics are going the way of trading cards for me back in the 90s… 50 cents use to get you a pack with 10 or more cards… that gradually turned to $2 and $4 dollar packs with 5 or less cards… You’re paying more for less now with comics!

I don’t think I’ve ever watched one of this person’s videos. But it made some interesting points on what determines the price of a standard comic.

Really interesting how the price was stable for so long, then how inflation drove the price point up to where it drove out newsstands and sparked the direct market.

At least these points seem to make sense.

Overall, I don’t think most comics are worth the sticker/cover retail price cause most of the stories within are just utter crap… I can understand why a lot of people wait for the trades or the omnibuses to read books… The story within is a big selling point for someone like me who actually wants to read the comics.

Some books that are now $4.99 average, a 5 issue story arc ends up being $25 to $30 just to read while normally you can get the trades for about $10 to $15. And most of the time with trades no need for an overpriced bag and board to go along with it that only drives up the actual cost of the total…

People wait for trades, and beloved series get canceled due to the individual issues not selling well. Then the trades do well, so they do another series, but its solo issues do poorly, and it is a vicious cycle!
