I set up an auto snipe bid on one last weekend as I was going to be busy and away from my phone. it sold for less than my snipe because I had set it up for 2 second left….basically a bid came in with 3 seconds left, although it was lower, my bid wasn’t over that bid enough (minimum increment over the previous bid) therefore it didn’t go through.
I’ve never had that happen before.
Cates likes to pump up the hype.
I have low expectations being a Sony Venom movie. So maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
If he doesn’t have a crowd at NYCC I may have him sign my Venom 23 for the PC (not graded).
Would like to also get Stegman and Young to sign as well.

As a creator, you have to imagine that’s exciting, a character you created is coming to life on the big screen. Good for him, he deserves it and he’s more than allowed to hype up his creation, IMHO.
Agree with this. It’s different to hype something in order to increase sales (coughSlott/Spider-Boycough) than to be stoked that your co-creation is actually going to be on the big screen.
Might it be a little over-enthusiastic of a tweet? Yes. But he’s at least read the script whereas we’ve only seen the trailer. We’ll see.
I’m absolutely hoping that Knull is NOT a one and done of a potentially great villain (Gorr - Grrrr)
Just sold a Venom 3 for $199.99 plus shipping. And funny, people on Reddit ripped me apart for it being bad spec. I had multiple copies I paid cover price for. Sold several at the first pop. Sold my last extra copy today. Sounds like good spec to me. Sell them if you have them.

I feel like Cates genuinely has excitement and love for his creations–a love of seeing it in the comic-books and now on the silver screen. He may overhype but I think he genuinely believes his hype, which is kind of wholesome, actually. I say this as someone who likes Cates tho.
If you met him, you’ll soon understand that he loves what he does and it’s genuine. Remember, he started off working in a comic shop before he started creating his own books/characters/stories.
Makes perfect sense the joy he seems to get from simply creating cool comics is genuine!
You know, while you are all out hunting and digging, don’t forget to take a peek in the Silver Surfer section at this point given the “cold” status of the Silver Surfer Black Books over the last few years.
There were some very cool later printings of those books that featured Knull. You just never know as some of those could have filtered back into back issue bins at this point in time and people may not be as aware of them. I think a few were pretty hard to find ratio variants but some were just regular open order later printings. anyhoo…just something to add to your shopping list.

He may have tried to claim that but the story specifically mentioned and involved Knull…and the art and covers had Knull in it/featured.
I don’t recall the timelines of Cates accident and post accident troubles (and I’m not being cruel or facetious) but perhaps he was confused or didn’t recall his own story or the series…not really sure.

There was a second print cover in that series that was came out the week after the first print, and therefore not heavily ordered.
I picked up a copy on MCS when for came out…made a nice little profit despite all the color loss along the back spine.
Apparently I sold issues 1 & 4.
I recall Cates saying Silver Surfer Black had nothing to do with the Black Winter even though it is clearly depicted and mentioned.
I was lucky enough to snag the whole set including two signed 1st issues by Cates and Moore from @DarkDominionComics . Ivan is such a cool dude. Didn’t mean for this to be a commercial but he really helped me with putting my Cates collection together. Still missing some pieces.
That’s it, Black Winter, not Knull. My apologies for confusing creations of Cates.
In these cases, we have to take the creators words since they are the creators, so we can say it’s Black Winter all we want but if the actual creator says it’s not, we should just leave that as the final word. It’s likely just a coincidence from the artist probably in the way it was described by Cates when he wrote the story.
