We all hate store variants but

There’s already a thread…

I like Susperia just fine, definitely not someone who would make the worst covers thread very often

That Venom cover belongs in Mildly Inappropriate Covers . Looks like Superman is giving Venom… the business

Superman’s mullet is FANTASTIC!!! Superman’s definitely doing something with Venom’s throat and if you see the size of the other ham fist, it’s gotta be uncomfortable  That right arm is way off

What an odd cover

I like the Miles/Spider-Punk/Static/John Henry Irons cover - but I almost didn’t notice Spider-Punk. I don’t really know what’s supposed to be going on here

What an odd cover

Those are both big passes for me. Which means they will sell for a crap ton of money.

I won’t be competing for either one. Still curious how they’ll go over.

Here is something cool that I don’t really know where to put it. It’s limited to 5,000 copies and from super 7 so I guess technically is a store variant

750 copies printed and $50 starting price? Yikes, that’s a bit on the high side.

Better than Mark Spears prices.

Long ago, I made a thing to buy every Alex Ross cover I could find.
That’s when they were reasonably priced. He was reasonable. He was accessible.

Then the AlexRoss exclusive shop and Alex Ross convention booths were born.
Nothing was reasonable anymore. He disappeared. His covers started at an ungodly buy-in.
And I no longer purchase anything from Alex Ross.
Great business model if it’s working for him. But it don’t work for me, the customer

Bottom of the article the author does the solid of showing a list of every store exclusive for every Abs Bats issue and it is absolutely ridiculous :upside_down_face: I appreciate a good cover and a hot artist as much as the next guy but good lord how does any book retain value long term when there are so many cover options available? Yes I too am guilty and have bought store variants in the past on occasion but it is mind boggling how many are regularly released.

They’d actually started going down some before Abs Batman. This part of the industry only thrives when there is a red hot title like this. It was slow down in the next year most likely.

When retailers and influencers sniff out the hot books and start doing retailer exclusives it’s time to jump ship. They’re heading for the dollar bins. Best to stay ahead of the curve and move on to the next spec.
