They’re essentially doing that. Just doing you a favor by taking the extra step of printing it, saying the prints are limited to just 75 copies, then having the artist sign it. They ran a signed print yesterday and it went for around $500.
I don’t get too worked up about what people do with their money. Those of us on this forum are probably a bit more knowledgeable and wise with our comic dollars, but if someone desperately wants a book and can afford $1000 for it, hell, go for it. Now, if they are doing it thinking some day it’ll be worth $2000, they are 100% wrong. But, maybe they just really want the book? Who knows, and IMO, who cares.
The seller surely sounded a bit scammy, and talking trash about other exclusive artists probably isn’t a great look or way to work with other artists down the road. But, the comic biz surely is not free of assholes. Oh well.
The people dropping $1k+ could literally be buying original art, let alone key books.
He’s talented, but this is not how you build or retain a fandom. Super curious to see where his reputation goes from here. The vibes behind some of these exclusive drops are repellent regardless of who the artist is.
It was on this day, when David heard this. He knew @agentpoyo was cheating on comics with other hobbies. There was no concerete proof, but David knew deep in his heart that Poyo was dabbling in something else. David’s heart would have broken, but it was already frozen cold and full of little besides scorn and sarcasm after living through the 90’s comic crash.
For real though. Such prices make me worry we’re in a bubble that keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I dont think there is anything wrong with the industry. If some fools want to pay this for variant more power to them. Lots of people are buying and reading the absolute books, and thats great for the industry.
If I see something is a what not drop, I just assume its going to be a scam/ clusterf*&k and stay away.
The What Not industry will crash and burn. Dont buy that crap and dont pay those prices. All of those retailers on there are the same a$$holes that deal in sports cards. Slime balls and con artists.
Hey now, @Anthony and I have sold on there! We may be slime balls, but we are NOT con artists!
There are some good shows to buy on there. You just have to find the right ones and have self control. I have picked up a lot of good deals on there. The people buying the hyped up stuff would be buying it someplace else if not on there.
Sounds like a douchebag. I’m out on Quitana. If I find some open orders in the wild for cheap I’ll pick them up to flip. Will not be keeping any for my PC. It’s a shame because I do like his art.
I’m glad I was never into exclusives so never took part in any 1 minute sold out drops and other shenanigans.
What…a…douchebag
Hope he is in the dollar bin where he belongs before too long. As a non-creative I won’t buy one of his books unless I buy on secondary and flip. I feel like that is what he wants, this way I spread his ART and he doesn’t have to be bother with a boring thing like dollars he doesn’t get from the sale.
Holy hell. What a tool.
I was certain Whatnot was not going to survive post-pandemic. I was incredibly wrong. It’s just grown in prominence and has become the sole avenue hundreds of shops move product.
Hate that cockroach app.
That one eye symbolism? Hmm
Couldn’t come across as more of an arrogant douchebag
Not one ounce of humbleness or gratefulness for his rise to popularity… indeed what a shitbag.
Hot cover artists come and go quickly. A good way to speed up that process is to act like a complete shit.
HeavyMental tried to make things right by dropping th 1000 extra copies they held back from their show a few days ago. Put them up for $25 and $40 I think? Trade virgin and Foil trade dress.
Was up on their whatnot stream. They dropped ~500 of each and you had to be one of the lucky to swipe right quickly as they sold…lasted about 30 seconds each drop.
~2.5k people showed up. I did not get either…never been part of something like that before…was wondering how it was going to work. Swiping so much my screen flipped to another live auction and I think I bid on some random manga live auction that was going on…but I don’t see any record of it in my history.
Crazy.
Managed to snag a virgin cover for $15. It was wild and chaotic.
