I mean, to be fair, it’s a difficult pose. That’s like a step above a crow pose, which I have a real hard time contorting my giant ungainly body into during yoga.

Never forget the Archie #1 ASM 300 homage:

I’m trying to think - has there ever been a cover of Venom or Carnage that doesn’t have that tongue sticking out all over the cover? There’s gotta be 1 … I hope? 1 out of a million?? Maybe?

I’ll give McFarlane due credit… he didn’t go apeshit crazy with Venom’s tongue…

Amazing Spider-man 361. No tongue.

ASM 315. No tongue.

ASM 316. No tongue.

Had to go back in time … but yep… I guess those count.
Anything in the last 20 years? LOL

Venom #6 2017. No Tongue.

However, I will say, it took me longer than I expected and I waded through more tongue covers than non-tongue covers. So, point taken.

But if the idea would have dawned on him, you KNOW that tongue would have flapped as wildly and freely as Spawn’s impossible cape!

Maybe… sometimes when I look at Spawn, I realize all he did was take his Venom creation and put a little bit of Venom into Spawn. Yes, not same character but they sure do resemble one another at times in looks.

The tongue thing really started with Larsen. When larsen took over art for ASM and had stories with venom he drew venom with spikier teeth, longer tongue and and green slop in his teeth. Go back and look at McFarlane venom drawings and his tongue isn’t as prominent

I think McFarlane is on the record as being pro-teeth, anti-tongue. Like LoveBox said, the tongue was Larsen’s thing.

So, is this first venom tongue cover? Do we need to call in the Youtubers on this one!?

Seems to be the earliest one. Some of the other Larsen venom covers the tongue is not as crazy as in 346 or 347, both iconic covers and both featuring Venoms long tongue

Issue 346 was published in 1991.
So 30 years of those dumb tongue covers?
No wonder why I can’t stand the character.

332 is first Tongue with Larsen, I think?

332 feels pretty toned down compared to later versions of the tongue

Yeah but even Larsen’s tongue wasn’t as bad as today’s artists… they’re just straight up making Venom a vampire out of The Strain…

First cover, no tongue.
