ZOWIE! Original comic book art is suddenly selling for millions | The Star

Interesting article, thought I’d share it. Be well everyone…

I’ve heard stories about big investors buying up all the high grade silver and golden keys too. The article hinted at what I think is the driving force. Nostalgia and disposal income. The more the merrier.

I can’t get over the use of, “ZOWIE!”

That’s almost as tacky as the articles we see every couple months that are along the lines of, “Biff! Pow! Comics Aren’t Just for Kids Anymore!” for the 50th time in the last 4 decades…

Don’t get me wrong, the article itself is solid. Thanks for sharing!

Zowie is Canadian slang for ‘holy sh!t, Batman’.

If you are only specing comic books, you need to reconsider. This just happened:

Ok, I am considering offers in excess of $1 million on my birth page of Spider-punk. It is not Venom, but it is the birth page!

Interesting that the page in the article below (last page of Incredible Hulk #180 i.e. birth page of Wolverine) was bought for more than three times the general consensus back in 2014. And in 2022, I wont be surprise that after today’s sale, the same page would fetch in excess of ten times the value i.e. $6m. Just shows you how much values have converged to the best keys of original comic book art.

Was it the Heritage founder bidding on his own stuff again?

I wondered that, too.

Not exactly a million dollars, but $13.2k for an unpublished commissioned batman by Gabriele Dell Otto.
