$500 Gift Card What Would you get

Hypothetically speaking. If someone gave you a gift card to Mycomicshop, what would you get?

I pick $500 because that is the range book I am looking to get before the end of the year, no one gave me a gift card, that is hypothetical. And I picked Mycomicshop because of their range of back issues.

Let me hear some $500 book ideas.

The Crow #1 would be my $500 book to get this year. At least in a 9.2 condition minimum…

  • DC SILVER AGE KEY (1st App Deadman, 1st Guy Gardner, Zatanna, and so on)
  • DC BRONZE AGE HORROR. (House of Secret, House of Mystery by Neal Adam, Bernie Wrightson)
  • Marvel Silver Age ASM.

All the above will be good going forward. Really like to see how those key be tanking FLEX. I’m confident they should be alright in 2 years or longer.

For investment or PC? Either way:

  • I’m still bullish on Ultimate Fallout #4. I’d make an offer on one of the 9.4 or 9.6s or top off the $500 to get to where I needed.

  • I would also go to the perpetual blue chips of early Claremont Uncanny X-men and Amazing Spider-man. Particularly Uncanny 129 and 120-121.

  • I’d also consider Pedigree slabs. There’s a 9.2 Edgar Church/Mile High issue of Boy Comics. Having something from the Mile High collection would be cool.

There is a Hulk #180 CGC 5.5 for $520. If I was given a $500 card, I would have no problem putting $20 of my own money after the card to get it. Can’t go wrong with the first cameo…and therefore first true Wolverine. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

What a great topic!

I’ve always loved the Bronze age Neal Adams comic books and when I was a kid I read my Batman Limited Collector’s Edition C-51 Treasury to tatters, so it would have to be:

  1. Detective #400 1st Man-Bat
  2. Batman #234 Classic Two-Face issue and cover
  3. Batman #243 impossible black kung fu cover (high grade raw 9.4-9.6)

In the 80’s and 90’s I really liked and collected the Graphitti Design hardcover reprints that were signed and numbered by the creators. Beautiful books of some of the most seminal stories from comics like Dark Knight and Watchmen. Never could get/afford:

  1. Elektra Assassin Graphitti Designs Hardcover signed by Miller and Sienkiewicz and limited to 2000
  2. Hellraiser Graphitti Designs Hardcover signed by Clive Barker and limited to 500

Batman #227 in whatever grade the $500 will get you…graded you may get a 5.0.

IMO…the book is recession proof. Grade doesn’t matter either…will always be a buyer for it regardless.

On the modern front…I’ll take a GI JOE #21 in a 9.6 and have a bit of change left over to play around with on the gift card.

I have first Deadman, UF4. I owned a Batman 234 but sold it some years back. I do collect old Batman books and have shown off some of what I have picked up over the years, mostly graded gold and silver aged Batman. Most recent slab pickup was a Beware the Creeper #1. I love old DC as I think it is under valued (been picking up Green Lantern books as well) as well as Pre-Code Horror. I have a ton of Marvel keys which makes it difficult for me to grab Marvel ones at a good price.

They have a signed one for $575 but it is a 2.5

Here is my pre-200 Batman slab collection. Not showing off all the raw pre-200’s I have

Yup

Tec 359 is seriously so undervalued I’d consider that book.

Brave and the Bold 54 - Also super undervalued.

Spawn 174

Just off the top of my head.

Showcase #79 although the copies they have aren’t a good price. Higher grades on ebay for much less but that’s what I’d be looking at.
