Sure, and let DC take the main spotlight at the world’s biggest comic con? The mouse would never let that happen. Sdcc is way to mainstream now to not show up, even if they aren’t announcing anything groundbreaking.
You’re also overlooking the fact there are many more faces paying attention to sdcc than d23.
Kind of have to agree with @monopolyjackson here. Marvel has become so big, they can do what they want. They are not relying on SDCC since they have D23. It’s beneficial for Marvel and SDCC to work together, however it hurts SDCC more than it would have any impact on Marvel if they don’t show up.
Disney has so many property rights now, they could easily hold the biggest convention ever that is bigger than SDCC and NYCC combined if they really wanted to.
It’s kinda like Tom Brady when he was with the New England patriots. Other teams viewed the patriots as rivals, but the Patriots didn’t see themselves as having any rivals because they beat everyone’s asses so bad.
Well, I went to Kubecon in Spain back in May and they were surprised they actually had 7500 people show up from around the world despite cases of COVID still around (they had onsite testing for people to take before leaving and they confirmed like 58 people had tested positive), so I can imagine most conventions are gonna be in full swing again. I wouldn’t have mind getting COVID to get stuck in Spain for a few more weeks to be honest…
