Ummmm… then, I’m sure someone’s made a graphic novel of the bible.
Nice mail call today. This book was lost in the mail thanks to UPS. After many emails, it thankfully ended up with the comic shop that served as facilitator, and now it’s here.
Absolutely love the cover to FF #49! Definitely the best cover out of #48, #49 & #50! I know #49 has gotten expensive the past two years but I truly think it is one of the most undervalued silver age Marvel books out there right now. I tend to think #48 still has a lot of room to grow as well, but 49 being second Silver Surfer, first full Galactus and first cover for both! There has been plenty of talk about this by many of us on CHU over the past while but the very second Marvel makes an official announcement, oh boy, look out!
Talk about a stressful experience!.. Last year the post office lost my batch of freshly graded CGC Eternals with a bunch of 9.6 and 9.8 books in the mix. They found it but man not fun waiting.Glad you got that book back! It is a very nice copy and if they ever bring Black Cat into the MCU it will skyrocket! Surprised she never made it in any of the Spider-Man movies.
The 1st cover for the two is what made me want it. Back when I bought #48 when it was considered 1st Galactus before people came up with cameos and full. Which it’s still the closet one page cameo to being a full appearance. The whole book is about Galactus coming shows his spaceship in a half dozen panels mentions his name throughout the book and on the cover his hearld is there warning people then he gets off the ship you see him in full end of book.
I sold many a comic with the help of this site to acquire my 4.0 cgc copy of FF49. No desire to own 48 or 50 if I had to give up 49 as I think this is the best of the three.
Don’t you think that’s a odd reason to stop using a service? It’d be like your car mechanic says he’s gonna start accepting boats to fix to expand his mechanic services.
Nope, can’t take my car to a boat mechanic, no way… nuh huh… can’t have my car mechanic working on boats…
You don’t take your Mercedes to a Buick used car dealership for work. You got to wait for all those Buick’s to be worked on before they get to your car and hopefully you get a mechanic that knows your car and not just Buicks. So imagine the increase to wait times on comic submissions because they are busy grading multiple someone’s 1000 cards submitted for grading. How do you know you’re not getting the same guy grading both maybe he’s specialized in magic cards and grading your comics or vise versa. I know if I graded MTG cards with all the experience I have from playing Magic since Legends I still couldn’t properly grade even sports cards let alone comics. I have 30 years in comics and still not good at grades when you get in the 7.5-9.8 range. At least when I send to PGX they grade comics nothing else not waiting behind different collectibles to get graded and they are cheap.
Pretty sure most mechanics can figure out any car that rolls in, they all work pretty much the same with slight variations. I got a good buddy who was a Lexus mechanic, they worked on any and all cars, cause they get the trade ins as well.
We are talking about paper stock being graded though. I doubt your scenario is the case about books getting held up cause a grader is working on a box of 1000 cards. I’d imagine they’re hiring more graders or they’re graders are apparently bored and need more work.
I think you’re making too many assumptions though about their process… perhaps you can email and ask them to share intimate details about how they operate… I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to share all their secrets…
Wonder how long it’ll take before we see CGC grading fake cards. There are a lot of good fakes out there and CGC barely spends any time grading comics individually. That’s why my Charizard is staying raw.
But seriously though, we know how CGC grades comics already… they got a spinner wheel for modern books less than a year old… it’s got the following slots for choices:
1 x 10.0
2 x 9.9
50 x 9.8
10 x 9.6
The grab the book, spin the wheel, whatever it lands on is the grade. Done. So yeah, they gots all kinds of time in the world to grade magic and pokemon cards cause that’s what they do 7 hours of their 8 hour work day after they’ve graded that days stack of comics to grade.
The real workers are the ones who have to encapsulate the comics and prepare for shipment.
I’ll send a power 9 to them I imagine they all will get through unless they plan on microwaving or burning the cards
Send all your comics, cards, magazines, video games to Poyo’s house… they’ll come back perfect… and my opinion only costs you $25 with a Poyo stamp of approval…
Playboy Mags - slightly used?
Only 3 pages stuck together
Poyo’s Grading Scale in order from best to worst:
Fukin Fabulous
Almost Fukin Fabulous
Meh It’s Alright
Did Your Grandma Pee On It?
You Just Sent Me $25 For Utter Shit
Let me know if anyone is interested, each graded item comes with my Sticker of Approval and I’ll stick it right on the book itself so it’s graded for life!
When I bought my F4 #48 it did say weird odor water damage. Now I know why.
For an additional $5 I’ll pull the pages apart so they can totally be “used” again…
That’s a rough job for $5
