Meanwhile, the crooks over at Asheville/Hotshot comics still haven’t sent me my ASM 55. And refuse to communicate or provide me with any sort of order update… 7 months later.
I’ve received slabs from hotshot before, but my current open order from November has not been fulfilled and it’s been over 6 months.
Store cannot afford me an update on order status - blocks me on social media when I respond to their posts saying that I’ve been waiting for 6 months… they have responded to others about the same book saying things such as “your book will ship at the end of next week” … But to me? No response and blocked lol, so what am I to think?
I have no reason to believe that they will send me what I paid for since they have nothing holding them accountable at this point. That said I’ll def let everyone know that I received my order if it ever shows up at my door.
update - just got a refund from hotshotcomics - 182 days after placing my order. Moral of the story? Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Also, publicly sharing this entire experience worked wonders. Cheers.
Went to the LCS with a friend of mine and he wanted to get some key CGC books, this is what we ended up walking out with, he got some great books, I also have a pretty good relationship with the owner so managed a 30-60% off on each book.
Thor - $90
Spider-Gwen - $200 this should hit a 9.8 once pressed.
ASM4 - $250
Invincible Iron-man - $180, he got this from their online store so paid full price
SS Black - $170
Kanan - $550
That spider-Gwen is going to be tough. The all black spine May crease/break color vertically along the edge of pressed. But let us know how it turns out.
Did you check to see if there were any graders notes? Likely not for a 9.6.
Hopping on the Sam Alexander train. While this book is in good condition and these had quite a few printer issues, this grade further cements the idea that I have no idea what makes a grade. I would have given this a 9.2-9.4.
Just repeat 100 times “They’re the experts; not me”, “They’re the experts; not me” and you will feel so much better. I do it all the time and the problem miraculously goes away.
Now I understand how Dorothy got back to Kansas. Just keep repeating anything over in your head and it becomes a reality! Issue solved
Just got a small, 6 book SA sub back from CGC. It was sent out on January 6th, first to my presser guy, then they arrived at CGC early February. Home today.
I don’t have very much experience with SA books, and lower grade books. I bought these books from my local LCS’ last year after the initial wave of local lockdowns had ended, to try and help support my shops with the free money I got from my government. I just went around one Wednesday to about 4 shops and bought what I thought were the best SA books off of their walls.
I paid $90 for the ASM136 (1st appearance of Harry Osborne as the Green Goblin), $110 for the IH180 (1st appearance of Wolverine), $200 for the ASM31 (1st appearance of Gwen Stacey and Harry Osborne), and $200 for the ASM37 (1st appearance of Norman Osborne) and Warlock #1 (Origin of Warlock), $80 for the SS3 (1st Mephisto). All funds in CND, w/ another $53 CND for pressing, shipping all around, and grading fee, per book, added to initial investment. All books have white pages except for the two early ASMs that have off white to white pages.
This particular sub seems to be decent in terms of CGC QC. Other than a few smaller Newton rings in some of the slabs, they appear to be clean, labeled correctly, and what not.
This is the damage on my SS3 that I thought would grade higher, but in all honesty, I had zero idea about how that missing back corner would affect the grade.
This is the rare .20 cent variant of Incredible Hulk #180
Great books. Great choices at the perfect time to purchase. And more than anything - glad they came back unscathed; no cracks; graded to your reasonable expectations.
