If it’s debris like dust or fuzz or whatever send cgc an email and see what they say. They reslabbed two books I bought off eBay completely free. One had a piece of fuzz the other had a piece of plastic in it.
Man, I’m jelly! That’s an awesome cover!
I received a 25 modern submission from CGC yesterday. I’m not thrilled or disappointed from this sub.
56% (14) came back at expected grade.
12% (3) came back slightly graded high, imo.
16% (4) came back on the low end of expectations.
16% (4) cake back much lower than expected.
A good percentage of the slabs have these weird little scuff marks riddled across the slab. Quite unsightly in the right light. And, this is a bonus for Bill…a 5"-6" dark hair encased in the slab of my 9.6 Superboy #9 (this was supposed to be a 9.8 too, lol).
So, I feel decent about the accuracy of the grading. But I’m not so happy with the scuffs, and really pissed off about the dreadlock size hair I’m one of my slabs. And the real kicker is…I got graders notes on 2 of 25 books. The 5.5 SW2 disaster and the Heir to the Empire disaster. The 8.5 IH228 doesn’t even have graders notes, and I was expecting a 9.6 or better. I would love to know why it got an 8.5, but CGC prefers mystery to their grades, I suppose.
Overall, I’m not happy with CGCs service. The QC, for the price paid for their services, is horrendous. I think I will be trying CBCS with my next submission.
The Superboy hair is what dropped the grade. I’m sure if you pull it out and resub, it will come back a 10.
Some beautiful books though! I’ve started noticing a lot of these weird scuff marks on the slabs. Some look like they are even inside the case. I’m not sure what’s happening but I’ve had a few customers ask about them as well. I always list them in the condition of the slab so there are no hard feelings.
I just sent in 40 books to cgc. Most should be 9.8s, I have a few older books that will probably be lower, but should be in the 9s.
Definitely would NOT be sending books to CGC right now.
I can wait until they get their act together and turnaround times down.
This submission was sent in early February. I had a few more subs ready to go, but started hearing the CGC stories. They were enough for me to put a stop to my subs, for now. CGC doesn’t seem to being pulling their weight lately, so to speak. And I am just glad to have this sub back without any major issues…only minor issues like scuffed slabs, hair slabs, and books moving in the slab. Uugh.
The old CGC graders now run PGX East out of Florida
The problem with scuff marks on the slabs or hairs getting encapsulated isn’t likely the graders but the crew who is likely equivalent to the warehouse shipping workers who are paid to place comic into slab with the provided label, seal and then pack it up for shipment.
I feel your pain brother. I feel your pain.
Data is what talks to me and you did a great job presenting the case.
I, too, unfortunately have books out with them since January, February, and early March. I am cringing as they are expensive books and I know… I just know… I’m going to be on the phone with them as an upset customer because… well… it’s the norm now.
You got some real nice books there though - gotta say. Cheers!
I’ve noticed some scuff marks on my last cbcs slabs too…nothing too distracting, but still like “wtf? Someone decided to be a little lazy buffing defects out as well as in QC…”

Most trusted source out there right😜

Thank you Anthony for posting this. If anyone has any questions please call 1-877-849-7786. I’ll be happy to answer your questions and hope to earn your business. We have new labels and are very easy to work with. I have sent product to influencers in the industry and they have all said it looks really solid. I understand for some of you PGX has a black eye. I am here to change that image and raise the bar completely. The other 2 grading companies aren’t perfect either. We will continue to bring you industry firsts. We are going global. We aren’t going anywhere. I have already had calls with 2 big industry people this morning and we will be working with each other to bring our customers and this community anything they want. We have on site grading planned for the Big Apple Con in NY Sept. 25-26. I am outstanding at what I do and I eat, breath and sleep comics.
Best Regards,

ETA Nick posted interesting vid of a viewer sending in a Modern book and getting charged Express Tier rate bump up AND still had to wait 6 weeks to get book back. If you get charged Express Tier you should get it faster one would think.
Something to keep an eye out on your CGC invoices.
Yes, but that’s one member of CGC who was a grader…and isn’t necessarily grading books…a staff of graders coming over has not been disclosed.
It does look like they are assembling a much better organization (or at least being more transparent about who is involved) than the parent company.
