CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

I think in my eBay listings I will now have to add a line about “the comic reflects the given grade and does not appear to be damaged by the encapsulation process”.

When raw books with a “presumed” grade, and looks outstanding to the naked eye gets the same $$$ as an equivalent graded book, the book is about to be closed. And I aint talking about the comic.

This bending damage; as well as the littany of other grievances (like piss poor grades), has soiled their reputation so badly and they’re too stupid or too high on their horse to correct them. For a quasi monopoly to fail, they seriously have to eff up consistently and with high likelihood.

The funny thing is I just watched Mint Hunter video talking about how a bunch of Silver Age keys in 9.8 are now under $1000 and he couldn’t understand why. I don’t leave Youtube comments, but got close to doing so. Not sure how he can be so obtuse as to what’s going on in the hobby with that Mickey Mouse club in sarasota

PSA has been given a gift with CGC incompetence. They better not blow it.

and CBCS is in lala land not leveraging it. They have a great slab and the grading is strict.

Maybe thats why no one sends in to them b/c submitters won’t get the terrible CGC grading to resell them.

This is what I don’t understand. CGC is pooping the bed repeatedly, and PSA is about to see what they can do, and CBCS just does… nothing?

CGC has better labels and their Signature Series events, and that’s really it for competitive advantage at the moment. The importance of their census is overblown IMO. How accurate is it really after 25 years of cracking/resubmitting anyway?

You’ll still get questions…people don’t read the listing, I find.

Still just as easy to tell them, read the description please!

Got my PSA book back from SDCC and I gotta say I am kinda happy lol.

The plastic case is way heavier than both CGC and CBCS. I want to say 2 caes = 1 PSA case.

Only issue I have is I think due to the weight of the casing, it does not give a proper seal? See images. It has some bubble marking. Kinda what you get when you don’t properly install a phone screen protector. When I press down on The casing, they go away and when I release the pressure, they come back. As you can see in the last 2 images.

Its not an expensive book so going to reach out to them and see what they say.

Looks similar to the Newton ring issue CGC has.

Dems called newton rings, Sonny. It’s common in these slabs, unfortunately.

Hopefully they don’t ignore it like CGC did for so long.

I long for the days when the only consistent issue with CGC was Newton Rings.
Seems like a big nothing burger now compared to … y’know… just damaging books

Yeah….remember when that was the issue that upset people?? And the reason not to use CBCS was their labels looked different?

I will never understand why folks have not inundated CBCS with submissions.
It’s a case study in business methinks for the future.

They’ve had one major eff up with bringing books to someone’s house to grade (something like that) and losing books that was like 5 or 6 years ago. Nothing I know of in the last 5 to 6.

CGC is every month either something new or something persistent and not dealt with. Bending/damaging books was the apex/peak/summit/pinnacle of ineptitude and still going strong after 2 years.

And every time the topic comes up, ring in the phrase “yea but the label”. Hmmm… damaged books graded by my grandmother or Labels that don’t meet your “artistic standard”. All I can say is cement head

I only have CGC and CBCS slabs, but I really do prefer CBCS. They just feel like a higher quality product. But, you do seem to get 80% of CGC value sadly.

I have CGC. CBCS. A PGX and a ACE slab. By far the ACE is my favorite because of the wall hangers built in.

I have CGC too.
They make great boat anchors

Update on the PSA book, the wife decided to keep it. She said “its on the back, who cares.”

So… yay! First PSA 10 lol.
