CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

Another day, another CGC scandal!

CGC keeps stepping on themselves, and meanwhile I read that CBCS isn’t even attending NYCC? It seems CBCS just doesn’t have the budget and/or staff to even stay in the game. PSA truly could not ask for better circumstances to enter the market.

Yea but their labels are so much nicer than their competitors.

And PSA has errors and missing information on their labels! I mean what a horror show!

Bulges and bent books are ok with me as long as the labels look good and are correct

I got your bulge-gate.

With a giant sized man-thing.

It would not surprise me if Beckett sold off that part of their business to another company wanting to get into grading in the next year or two. Maybe MCS…?

It is like they’re not trying to get new business at all.

PSA definitely is working the promotion & influencers side of things.
I’m seeing a ton of folks pushing them, doing give aways, & even promo codes to use for $25 off a submission.
Certainly, the product needs to be on point, but PSA is starting fairly strong from what I’ve seen.

So, watched this video. I have to point out how this person continually points out issues with CGC, makes statements like he hopes they get their act together and how awful these issues have been…yet continues to submit books to CGG.

What do they say about doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results?

Yes, CGC is ultimately at fault here and should be accountable. But if people keep throwing money at them and don’t actually hold them accountable, it’s never going to change. It is up to the consumer to take action if you believe something is wrong. Stop continuing to enable the situation.

I’m going to yell at a cloud for moment…but it really grinds my gears when Instead of taking a stand, and leading by example, someone makes a video whining about something and the goes right back to what they were doing before!! WTF, man!

Grow a pair and put your money where your mouth is. Otherwise shut the F up, already.

Pathetic.

The funny thing is in the video he actually asks himself the question ā€œWhy would I keep submitting ā€¦ā€.
To which he then immediately answers his own question with something like ā€œbecause they sellā€¦ā€

Well, I’m here to say: ā€œNot reallyā€.

I have been selling at many shows all year this year. I bring two boxes of key/semi-key slabs priced extremely low. I barely get glances within these two boxes. I’ve had one sale at a small show since spring of a slabbed CBCS book and one Ebay CBCS book; whereas my raw boxes sell quite well. There’s a tiny percentage of potential CGC book buyers and it’s getting tinier as this nonsense continues. Same goes with my Ebay.
This guy is not accurate anymore when he says ā€œbecause they sellā€ in my experience, as of lately. These Youtubers and others need to stop inserting their excuse of they still sell in their videos and their posts. It’s not nearly as a reality as it once was.

Great point about these influencers/YouTubers complaining.

I know there’s one fellow (can’t think of his handle) whose entire schtick is taking books & using his superior voodoo pressing skills to improve comics & then highlights the book & how much money he can or has made with the all mighty CGC grades but then pisses & moans if the Rumplestiltskin straw into gold plan doesn’t pan out.

You’re so happy with the condition & the work you did…just run with that! YOU sent the book off with a well established and known risk for damage.

It’s one thing if you’re like ā€œthis is what’s happening, and I’m sending my books in regardless because its more important to me to make money at the risk of damaging books, or even selling people a damaged product to my consumers.ā€

But no. This person puts it out there as if he’s expecting others to take a stand to benefit him…meanwhile he sends in another 121 books for grading (admitting so in the comments).

His message to CGC and to other is this is not a big enough problem to hold CGC accountable. ā€œI’m ok with this.ā€

That message will be well received by CGC. And it’s validating others taking the same approach. It’s the wrong message if you’re looking for change. These people who send in piles of books every month are the ones who can make a difference…make an impact…and yet they are too weak to take on that responsibility or leadership.

Hahah. Apparently I’m not the only guy calling out YouTubers for complaining while they’re enabling…

On thing did occur to be…what if this person with the spinner rack video just had a fidget spinner between the slabs….?

They want the continued drama… it’s driving traffic to their videos to make them money!

I stopped watching Mickey Mouth a while ago… he’s gotten too shticky.

He makes me laugh. I like his videos. Schtick and all.

I love Bronzeville’s videos the most. Genuinely
I’ve never seen such controlled & uncontrolled chaos in my entire life.

Did you see his 50 book 9.8 submission? It did not end well. The best was how books he had as ā€œcleanā€ were rejected, but others with multiple spine ticks were getting 9.8s. The kicker was the 9.2 Wolverine 1 that was resubmitted without any work done to it and came back a 9.8.

And that’s what you get from CGC…total inconsistency. They give these 9.8 prescreens to their least experienced graders.

Yepper - I saw it.
It’s just another piece of the CGC nonsense equation.

And this one, (the grading itself), has been there from very early on, imo.
The inconsistent subjectivity, and overlooked defects, and finding imaginary defects has just gotten pushed down so far on the ladder of CGC B.S. that it almost feels nostalgic to bring it to light again.

Jim is smart enough to constantly refer to the CGC grading thing as ā€œThe Gameā€. He couldn’t be more correct if he tried. It’s all one big scheme-ish game we play when we involve ourselves with them
