greed… it’s a helluva drug.
“Gosh, I wonder if any of these will be graded less than 9.8?” /s

CGC is all integrity and nothing but integrity.
… and inappropriate 9.8s
… and acetate covers
… and bent books
… and scuffs
… and…
… and…
… but their labels are sooooo nice
I’d like my Momoko Spawn from NYCC 2024 (also signed by McFarlane) to be signed by Peach, but not going to let CGC damage it.

My eye starts twitching a little when I always read or hear people on that’s why they’re buying slabs… forget about the comic, I bought me a nice slab with a pretty label in it!!! SMH… ![]()
Buying a graded comic because the label within is nice or pretty is like buying a brand new car only because the radio inside is… “cool”…
Immediately reminded me of this…
Smoldering car; snow covered, roof completely burnt out… got stopped by a Police Office and asked if any instrumentation works in the car. To which the response was the car radio. One of my favorite scenes in any movie

I do agree with his thought if you have a book you truly believe deserves a 10.0, don’t send it to CGC…::10.0 PSA will still net you a decent amount more than the 9.8 CGC.
I’m looking forward to a study that compares same book sales of CGC 9.8s vs PSA 9.8s / 9.9s / 10s. It’ll probably take a while since PSA is so new.
I have some CGC 9.8s that I’d consider trying to cross over into PSA 10s but if they’re just “handing them out” I have a feeling a PSA 10 won’t be worth that much more than a CGC 9.8.

There’s always something with Sarasota.
It never ends.
In other words…they came in at CBCS prices.
There was a Hulk 181 that came in over 30% below CGC FMV…and I think it was every bit the grade assigned…someone got a steal…
Nobody is going to beat CGC.
Plain and simple.
I think the way people price CBCS and likely PSA is they “trust” the grading, but most are buying the book to crack it out and send it to CGC.
So they’re take into account the risk it might grade slightly lower…plus cleaning and pressing fees. For common books (which 99.99% of comics are considered) If you look at CGC prices a half grade below plus change you’re seeing on average what people are paying for these alternatives.
That’s my take, anyway.
That GSX1 was a ln absolute steal as well. Every bit the 9.2, potential 9.4….sold for what a CGC 8.5 would go for.
I should have paid closer attention to some of these auctions…there were some nice “deals” to be had.
Not that people here buy big books on eBay….
But that was my first thought before Ryan got going and I knew any details…“Why is someone selling this book on eBay? Thats insane.”
Holy crap PSA is involved in a major scandal that’s blowing up the internet right now. The original poster of the scandal already has 1M+ view on his twitter/X.
Cliffys:
- guy sends 30 pokemon cards to PSA for grading expecting a few 10.0s, gets back all 30 as a 9
- PSA has a buyback program where if you get 8,9, or 10s they will offer to buy your cards back at a significant discount of FMV in which they can resell in all sorts of ways. It’s unlimited money for PSA, the video will get more in details of this. The submitter accepted PSA’s offer of the cards for a quick buck.
- PSA then took his cards WITH THE SAME GRADING SERIAL NUMBER and bumps the grade up to a 10.0 and sells it for massive profits from their official channels.
- The submitter finds his cards for sale from PSA with same serial number but with a bumped up grade to a 10. He makes post about it on twitter and has now blown up into a major scandal.
- PSA is made aware of this and now has to contact the submitter.
This exact scenario was one of the concerns raised about a possible comic buy back program.
Hate to say it but that’s exactly what happens when the grader becomes a retailer too.
