CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

I bet 95% of submissions are by flippers. You think they care about the bends?! And people buying off flippers are generally clueless/oblivious.

My point is, sales are dropping off because there’s a limited supply of gold-bronze comics worth grading, and 99% of modern books if not a 9.8 ain’t worth the plastic they’re in.

The economy is the culprit for low sales. Or at least what really is the root of declining revenues. You ain’t gonna solve it…nor is it getting resolved any time soon…so
Might as well join the wave of inflation and try to keep afloat.

Raise prices on the random books and encourage more 9.8 screens. Also, Reject a higher number of 9.8 prescreens to frustrate clients into multiple re-submits. Because where else are they going to go?

Every business thinks it is impossible to be the next Sears. Sears used to think that way. Now they are gone. I worked at Sears in the early 90’s when they were doing great but saw the writing on the wall even then. They were greedy with pricing. Customer service was good, but they took the stance that people would stay loyal they were “Sears”. They ignored serous competition from upstarts such as Home Depot and they thought they were impenetrable in every facet. All this before the internet took off. I left without ever looking back. Admittedly it took a little longer for them to fold than I guessed, but fold they did. CGC isn’t immune. If they keep screwing with customers it is only a matter of time before they go bye bye. It may take a decade or two, but it will happen.

I also read a majority of their execs didn’t take Amazon as a serious contender to steal business from them and thought buying and ordering off the internet primarily was a fad… which just tells me, sounds like it was a bunch of old farts who didn’t know shit about computers calling the shots. Same with Blockbuster, they thought Netflix was crazy, even had a chance to buy them… now look, Netflix is huge!!!

Survival of the fittest… you gotta evolve or get left behind!

Netflix was almost done in by Red Box. Creating their own content saved their butts. Talk about evolving to survive. Whoever had the foresight to have Netflix start making its own streaming shows was a genius for the time.

I loved Redbox. Used to give away free codes on here. Redbox sponsored us.

Redbox was awesome and quite useful for its time.

The best is when people claim that there must be something wrong with high end or popular cards/comics if they’re not graded. And I really like the person that says this. I am 100% against that mindset.

I don’t send anything to get graded myself, but I do buy graded. I can and will tell you if something is wrong with the card/comic without Jimmy the ‘Professional’ Grader being the final say.

If fact, I just bought a Monster and the Wolf A3 Foil CGC 9.8 off of eBay - the interior of the plastic has VISIBLE markings that really deteriorates the visual appeal. Should have been caught and re-slabbed.

I had no idea Redbox went bankrupt. I thought they still had kiosks in the local supermarket.

I recall waiting behind people on Friday/Saturday nights while they tried to decide what movie to rent…go over every single one and reading what the movie was about…

I guess I stopped renting when the kids started using iPads to download movies and cartoons for long car rides (vice portable dvd players)….it doesn’t seem that long ago…

World moves fast…

Found @Bill 's youtube account.

Cliffs: sent books back to CGC 3 times because of scuffing on the inside of the case, came back with scuffs every time.

Been there…

The sad thing is this should be a one off; 2 off; rarity; happens once in a blue moon. Any one of thise phrases would be fine.

But the feedback most of us give is “weve all been there”.
And that is what is completely unacceptable

CGC just has no incentive to care or improve. It really astounds me that CBCS has such a better product and no one will use them - granted, CBCS does not really even try to get business anymore. (I have no experience with PSA. Still waiting to see how that pans out.)

I posted here or some thread here about my CGC 9.6 comic with a human hair trapped in the case. Not exactly a 9.6 when it has hair oil rubbing on it. Yuck.

There are places I see that still just have the Redbox machine sitting in front of the store like a big rock. I always wonder if they still have all the movies in them.

Here is hoping the PSA drama going on tanks the value of their slabs and I can grab some deals :grinning:

Going way way way back in time to the early 2000’s, slabs were supposed to reduce the drama in this hobby by providing 3rd party expertise.

Its been nothing BUT drama in the grading world that one could make an argument is much worse than the drama it was supposed to resolve.

Its so.sad what has happened

They do. When Redbox first shut down the machines didn’t. They just were no longer connected to AWS their internet and processing service. AWS disconnected them for not paying. Long story short, people would go and swipe their card and rent every movie and game in the Redbox and not get charged. It was theirs to keep. Those boxes are still full and Redbox can’t afford to go around and remove them all.

PSA’s parent company just bough Beckett.
One would assume CBCS goes with them as well? Crazy development
