This the same argument used against speculators and flippers. Retailers and publishers claim they are hurting the “community”.
I mean, comics are a recreational item and don’t prevent dangerous illnesses, so I would say it is apples and oranges. Both are fruit, but way different.
The difference being; one is a literal life and death situation, and the other is comic books. Not much of a comparison, imo.
Exactly. Comics are not a necessity while these products are in this current situation.
He is now being investigated and possible civil penalties are pending. Cold-vin is getting his just desserts here.
The hand sanitizer guy is a scum bag. He will be a social pariah when this is all over.
Hopefully it’s over sooner than later.
Back on topic (for a moment), does everyone still plan on stopping at their LCS(s) this week?
I do. Probably will hit two of them at least. Maybe three!
Generally whenever I go it’s pretty quiet because it’s earlier in the day or later in the day. I will probably still go to them as long as they are not very busy and I don’t have to touch anyone or anything besides my pulls. I just will not have Clarkson come with me because he is three and likes to try to touch everything—that’s not a good idea in this current situation.
I am not. My lcs is offering free shipping to subscribers. I am going to go that route.
I still plan on going to my LCS’ on Wednesday. In all honesty, other than society shutting down, this is not affecting me too much. I work with a small group of guys, we work in an absolutely isolated area, and I live in the country. I can barely see my neighbors when I walk out of my house. Here is a photo from me and my crew today, preparing for Corona…Canadian styles.
The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, addressed my nation today regarding Covid19. Trudeau was honest, truthful, and straight forward in his address today. It was announced that Canada is closing it’s borders except for returning Nationals or their immediate family, and travel to the US. Many are expecting an US travel ban within the next few days. All Canadian airports are being closed except for 4 international airports in the major Canadian cities. All Canadian citizens who are abroad were asked to come home now, while they still can, and asked that all citizens do their part in helping curb the spread of this virus.
He assured the people of Canada that our food and other commercial supplies is not in jeopardy in the least, and to stop hoarding (lol). I would like to say, although I am not a fan of Justin Trudeau’s time in office (I did vote for him in his first term, but did not vote for him in the last election), hearing the seriousness of this situation being reflected today in the voice of my nation’s leader was quite reassuring. Trudeau was poignant in his delivery and direct in his address that any and all Canadian citizens will get through this together, and we will, as always, do our best as a nation to protect the vulnerable members of our society, and the globe, to ensure the best possible outcome for everybody.
Lots of comics stores are closing. They’re offering alternatives such as mailing customers books or offering curb-side pickup. The next few months are going to greatly affect the comic market.
How many comic stores can weather this storm if they close? Keep in mind they expect this to last Months. And how many that do survive are going to trust what they get from Diamond isnt going to have Coronavirus on their boxes ?
I know this is ignorant, and im just to lazy to google it, but how many cases are there in Canada now Jclu? and how many deaths?
Moderna, here in Boston, just started Trials for the vaccine today. They say it could take up to 18 months before its released to the public.
@Mike_C…
Coronavirus has infected 162 countries. There are 182, 605 cases, with 7, 171 deaths globally. Canada has 407 cases, 4 deaths, 34,000 people have been tested currently.
USA has 4134 cases, 75 deaths, 23,000 people have been tested currently.
Does anyone here know if this virus is effecting the live stock?
there was at least 1 report of the virus supposedly being passed to a dog…dunno if that was real or a mistake.
supposedly the virus can last on surfaces for 9 hours or so…and its hard to imagine any box getting from canada to diamond then to comic shops in under 9 hours. of course the 9 hour thing may be waaaaaay too low, and maybe it can last 2 weeks (seems rather implausible tho).
how long this lasts may also come down to the reports from China of people who were discharged and cleared getting re-infected. if this becomes a widespread thing…this could go much longer than 2 months. if the few people who got reinfected were misdiagnosed either the 1st or 2nd time…no cause for concern (sucks for those people to get both a bad flu and covid 19 back to back tho). if no mistakes were made and there isn’t some underlying health condition that allowed for reinfection…hit the panic button…this could last into next year.
once more testing gets done and real numbers get released it is also technically possible that the more extreme measures may get scaled back (doubtful…but technically possible). if covid 19 is found to have infected 20%+ of people in the US, and hospitals aren’t overwhelmed…things may get closer to normal in a few weeks. this would require that everyone get tested which makes it extremely unlikely.
it is also possible that some of the drugs they were testing in China to lessen the effects may be found to work, and that may be enough to get things closer to normal quicker.
still too many unknowns…and thats probably why everyone is currently in panic mode…once more info gets released, more tests get done…maybe this gets a bit better.
9 days for surfaces not hours.
