Dead Spec Gallery of Horrors

Enormous - I remember buying a ton of these comics when the writer was posting on the CGC forums. Love the art and the story is good as well - it’s the multiples of each issue that got me

Most Marvel female led comics: The Mighty Thor, Captain Marvel, Riri Williams, Kamala Khan, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, Silk. I enjoy my Moon Girl and Silk comics though

Star Wars High Republic. Damn, we need that live action made

Thor: God of Thunder is still one of the BEST Marvel series in the last 25 years IMO

Aphra, Ahsoka and Thrawn but I like these characters so not a total waste

I like when people here say they still liked the comics even if the spec didn’t work out. If we buy what we like we didn’t waste our money! Right?

Those are still some awesome comics to have high grades on! I need to get some more Thor: God of Thunder books

I agree with you David - Maybe we spent too much or bought too many, but if you like the cover/story, then it wasn’t a total waste

I also think there’s a difference between dead spec and spec that has come and gone and we missed the right window to sell.

And, several of the above, I still believe in! WE LIVE is so good. I swear I have half a short box dedicated to those 5 issues. I still hope that some day it’ll become a movie or something. Wishful thinking.

Vengeance is certainly a come/gone one.

The one thing I still like about Vengeance is that it is a great cover & to this day…I really just don’t see it that often. Clearly that is in part to it not being popular, but I never found it to be a easy book to get ahold of.

I’ve got a nice raw copy that I missed the sell window on, but… yeah, I still don’t see this out there a lot and when I do, it’s often dirty/beat up from years of no one caring.

I’ll just post a picture of 6 long boxes I filled in ‘22-‘24. Filled with Star Wars, DC and Marvel first appearances, and a bunch of “great” indies like Shadecraft, We Live, Twigg, etc. Instead of going for the quick flip, I thought some of these will only keep going up. I’ve got Tosin, Red Canary, Ghost Light, White Adam (can’t even remember anymore what name they gave him) and all that once hot Echo and Riri stuff. I will say, the DD books with Echo have nice covers; I really like the one with the blue hand print that is prominent on it. I wish some rich guy would buy them all off me for cover price and then donate them. Win win for me and charity.

Just wait till the facsimile… then its truly dead…

I never worry about the hot new books. I just go for older keys and stuff I want and sell the hot new stuff.

I still have a ton of Eternals bronze age I was waiting to sell when the sequels came out… I did sell half of what I bought before the first movie released, thankfully. I also got in very early, well before the movie was announced, to where I was paying as little as $2 each for issue #1 - #19, with many in very high grade. It was such a cheap series and most comic shops that dealt with bronze age had plenty, at least the ones close to me.

I had around 20 total copies of issue #1 with most grading at 8.5 to 9.6. I was selling the 9.6 CGC copies as high as $450. I still have two left at 9.6, one at 9.4 and couple at 8.5… and a few un-graded. Issue #2 and #3 also commanded big time premiums for a while. Can’t wait for the rest of that trilogy to be released in theaters so I can unload some more! (rolls eyes).

I shouldn’t complain though (but I will). I made out like a bandit even though I still have a short box of various bronze age issues remaining. They are all paid for and I still made just over a couple grand profit overall after all costs, including grading, but I “could” have made a good amount more. Oh well. The kicker is it should have been a significantly better movie but moved too far away from the source material. I guess that can be said with a whole lot of Marvel/Disney properties these days.

Scout is doing eBay lives. Selling other publisher’s comics. They have fallen.

I thought It Eats What Feeds It was gonna be bigger.

They seemed promising for a bit there, focused on good stories and art but they chose the wrong path for sure…

i remember seeing them on whatnot with like 3 people in a room max trying to sell printing plates packs

I forgot about all the potential they showed. Sad.

This thread needs to stop…I already have numerous bins of dead spec as a constant reminder…this is salt in my wounds…

I never give up on dead spec. Here is one that was sitting in the dead spec .25 bin at my LCS. It has come back around.

Pulled this puppy for a quarter yesterday. Need to revisit those dead spec boxes from time to time.
